Does anyone play football manager 23? I'm currently managing Barnsley on the game. Just looking for some ideas, formation/players bought and sold etc
I play it. I started as manager of Margate in the 8th Tier, got them promoted, then went to Fylde and got them into League 2, then went to Swansea and got them promoted to the Prem twice before making them mid table. They wouldn’t sign a player I wanted, so threatened to resign, they accepted it and I ended up at Man U a few weeks later. It’s a great game but it really is far too easy. Best Formation is thus - Gegenpress Back 4 2 DMs 1AM 2 Inverted wingers set to Attack CF
I've just started playing it this past week - tried to avoid it as I've spent far too much of my life playing previous versions but it's a nice way to while away some time, particularly if you have insomnia...... Just got us promoted from L1 - an ultra attacking 4-1-4-1 tactic I downloaded from the SI FM forum. Norwood has scored 51 goals and Tedic 46...........so very realistic
I recommend not downloading tactics and formations etc from forums because they're designed to break the AI. in previous versions it uses to be 3 out and out strikers. Stay away from those and it'll be more realistic and fun
Exactly this. I find my own way and it’s much more of a challenge. I like to start with a small club and build something although in poorer leagues it’s perhaps not as tactically nuanced. Get em fit, get em pressing. Consistency, build partnerships etc. 4-2-3-1 gegenpress is my weapon of choice at the moment for St Patricks athletic who poached me after getting Wexford promoted against all odds.
I've got the Xbox version. Got promoted in first season. Cole got over 30 goals and wanted to leave so sold him to a Scottish premier club for less than a million. Jalo is outstanding as a left sided inverted winger on attack.
Selling a proven scorer so cheaply is such a Barnsley thing to do. The realism of the game is amazing.
I used to play it 40 years ago, on the Speccy/Commy, the cassette version lol. But I've never been interested in footy manager games really. It would help if they made the opposition zombies or nazis, and allowed you to blow their heads clean off!
100%. Lower leagues/ non-leagues, best attributes are by & far the physical ones. Acceleration & pace being the main ones (even though they're important in all leagues obviously). But mixed with a bit of strength, you can really rely on just physical attributes at the expense of some mental/technical
I've been playing as Lincoln in the 1997/8 version and enjoying it. I fell out with the modern versions as it was more like a job than game, but I've heard good things about the latest one. Maybe I'll try it.
I'm waiting until FM2026 comes out. Looking forward to managing Wednesday in the European Super League.
Yeah in the Irish leagues the schedule is chaotic as there’s loads of competitions to play in so it’s Friday / Tuesday / Friday / Tuesday pretty much the entire season so fitness, strength and territory is the order of the day. Big Val would love it!
