35 mins to get from Town End roundabout to the M1. Unacceptable. Is it like this every day??

Who are these people developing the town's roads? Everywhere they touch they make worse.

And what on Earth are they messing around with on Donny Road through Darfield? Nearly 5 weeks they've been at that, moving a handful of street lamps back 4 yard.

    Dodworth Road needs sorting ASAP.

    Yours,
    One fed up voter

Your experience does not correspond with mine. We were only saying yesterday how much better it is now.

I live on Dodworth Road. On a morning I can't get out of my drive and on an evening I can't get in. Might be OK in the middle of the day, but I'm at work.

    It's a proper ballache.

It's why I get into the office a bit later and leave a bit later. Nightmare getting in and out at rush hour.

Drive up Dodworth road at 6:45 on a morning, and back around 4:30pm. Usually no problem but was snided today so we went along Broadway instead. Presumed there’d been an accident or breakdown cos it’s not been like that for us once since the new build

Without proper grade separation at that junction it’ll always back up at peak times - no matter how much they mess with it. The new layout was designed to move the junction further away from the motorway so that traffic wouldn’t end up queuing on the slip road and, ultimately, onto the motorway.

It doesn’t help that Barnsley has no proper ring road and pretty pathetic public transport links.

Has anyone experienced junction 36 at Birdwell coming from Sheffield at rush hour on an evening? Queuing on the slip road and into the slow lane is the norm.
It was fantastic forwarding planning to build an Aldi near the junction just to add to the carnage.

Might be better if more people used public transport.

Traffic from Pogmoor gets filtered into Dodworth Road miles quicker with this new system. Hardly ever any queuing whereas before it was terrible. The extra traffic coming through quicker from Pogmoor is slowing down that coming up from town end. That’s my theory anyway.

My work - Home takes me through the Penny park Giratory, and the Birdwell Giratory.
Basically, I take another route in rush hour.

    Saves me so much time.

Could it be a vicious circle of more people would if it were better and it would be better if more people did?

You’ve done a glorious rant there for a journey you clearly don’t undertake that often (as you had to ask if it’s like it every day) and therefore don’t know if it was just a one off.

unfortunately for so many, public transport just doesn't work. where I live there's 1 bus an hour, and it stops running at 5pm.

So, before the Gyratory there were two lanes filtering traffic for Broadway/M1 J37/Pogmoor. Now there are three lanes (by way of a staggered junction). That can only lead to an improvement. But if traffic increases, then that will worsen things. Hard to argue that the powers that be are at fault here - people either have to use their cars less or face the consequences of everyone declining to do so.

Eh that takes me back. There was a time, quite recently in my head! when Barnsley had the finest public transport system in the UK. But then more important things took precedence; ensuring the private car had a higher status than public transport. Private sector profit, the ''right' to destroy the planet and turning over a Socialist local council. All of which have been really successful. Its a great Country.

Eh? That's why i asked? I said today that was unacceptable. I posted straight after the journey, and I was annoyed. Because all I seem to do is sit either in roadworks or traffic jams where things never used to be as bad.

    Forget it.
