The trouble is several of the main characters are completely fictitious.

Me too. I was disappointed when I got to the end of it. I’m presuming there’s only 8 episodes and it’s not coming out weekly?

I cannot remember what channel any of these are on, so some might be on Sky or Channel 4 or something. All are worth looking for though.

    Horror
The Haunting of Hill House (my favourite TV show ever!)
    Marianne - scary French horror
Kingdom - cross between Shogun & The Walking Dead - brilliant
All of Us Are Dead - Japanese zombies, centred on a school
Black Summer - what can I say, I like Zombies, okay?

    Comedy
Arrested Development (first 3 series only) - more jokes per minute than an episode of The Simpsons in its heyday - don’t fastforward the ‘in the next episode’ bits like I did to start with, as it’s just an excuse for a few more visual gags
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - first series was very good, and then Danny DeVito joined the cast - nobody does sleazy better than DeVito
Sex Education - Holgate was never like this
Schitt’s Creek - rich family lose everything and move to small town
Atlanta - comedy drama by the incredible Donald Glover (Childish Gambino)
The Office: An American Workplace - better than the UK version (once you get past the first few episodes) - there, I’ve said it
Ted Lasso - a footy coach who knows nothing about football, like our two last season
Toast of London - Matt Berry is funnier than ever (the audiobook of Stephen Toast’s ‘autobiography’ read by Berry in character as Toast is also highly recommended

    Sci-Fi
The Lazarus Project - time travelly thriller
The Time Traveller’s Wife - time travelly romance
Russian Doll - not time travelly, per se, more like time repeaty

    Thriller/Drama
Animal Kingdom - US series based on Aussie film
    Ozark - don’t pick a favourite character!
Justified - Timothy Olyphant as US Marshall - excellent
Mare of Easttown - Kate Winslett’s best role in years
When They See Us - a series that will make you dislike Donald Trump even more
Mr. Mercedes - Brendan Gleeson at his best
The Offer - about the making of The Godfather - brilliant
Le Bureau Des Legendes (The Bureau) - French spy thriller that’s even better than Spiral
Vis a Vis (Locked Up) - Spanish women’s prison drama that makes Orange is the New Black look like Porridge - this might be on the All4 app I think

If you haven’t watched first two episodes yet, don’t be put off by the slow progress of the storyline in the first one.
    It’s more of a pilot.
Episode 2 is very impressive ( except the accents ) and there must have been a large budget so, all in all I think it’s going to be a good un !

Although its gone a bit original star trek for any new characters in an episode

Great list. For anyone into comedies, I'd second Schitts Creek. Incredibly funny, and brilliant at character development. I'd also say if you liked that, give Parks and Recreation a go.

Thanks all for the recommendations. We've just finished the Gold (as it was the first series to get 2 mentions in this thread). It's decent, worth a watch.

Got a list to have a look at now.

We're currently watching supernatural on Amazon. It's an old series, started in 2005 I think and consists of about 15 series. Very good if you like a bit of a fright.

I had a bit of a read about it last night after watching the Gold. I found it odd that they left out what had happened to Edwyn Cooper, despite him being heavily involved in the final episode. Turns out, he's not a real person, but an emalgamationcof several people who they know little about, who may have been involved.

Cooper.. his wife, girlfriend and the bloke who eventually gives him the hard word are all made up which is disappointing when they play such central roles in the series, it portrays Noye as a cheeky chappie rather than one of the nastiest people around, and Palmer also as a bit of a lad... which is far from the truth. It's entertaining but it's a shame that there was so much factual stuff omitted that is really relevant. I'm surprised they didn't briefly cover the aftermath.. several people connected were murdered including Palmer.
