    It’s a con.

The good thing about working in advertising is you get to see behind the scenes. Basically, they make it up. Now they’ve got more data on you it makes no difference.

My car insurance went up by £100 last year – no change in circumstances. I called them and said I can get this cheaper anywhere else. “What quotes have you got? They asked. None I said. “I‘ll see what we can do…” Took them about 3 attempts but the got it down to what I paid last year. Absolute b@satards.

My tip - always call. Every time I’ve done it with any insurance I’ve got what I wanted.

Putting your name down as the main driver on your child's car is classed as insurance fraud so be very careful. It is known as 'fronting'. Not saying anyone is doing this above.

The companies take the piss with youngsters and I don't in any way condone their behaviour, just want to stress.

Sounds about right as he's under 21 if he has a black box that will help too. My daughter was supposed to have hers for a year but after less than 3 months of " green" driving they told her to send it back .

Hotels and holidays can tell how many are looking at any time, so if you look at a popular time the price goes up.

Also if you look for flights or whatever do it in incognito mode if you can, if you look multiple times they put the prices up to make people think they have to buy immediately

Put himself down as a librarian as an occupation. Put anyone more experienced than him as main driver, youngster be just a named driver. Let him drive to work in it but don't bother putting commuting on his insurance. If he gets a new stereo or mods, dont bother telling the insurer as they dont need to know. Final advice, trust the Ghost Broker of the BBS

Look at cars that aren't the norm for a youngster that has just passed their test. Fiesta, Corsa etc will be a higher risk as they are statistically crashed more by new drivers. Maybe look at Volvo's, Saab's etc and see what quotes you get. Have parents as NAMED drivers and a black box for the first year is probably not a bad idea.
