Early on, when Cadden wasn't great, he was still crossing balls with absolute quality, we just weren't getting on the end of them. I said at the time if he stays for a good while, I genuinely believe he could become the best LB/LWB we've had for many a year. Of course Hemsy wouldn't agree, as Cadden also didn't play at an academy of a 'big' club. Despite a lot of examples we gave him of players coming up from non-league to play for massive clubs, Vardy, Smalling, Jarrod Bowen, even our own Marc Roberts, he was having none of it
Nobody has insulted him. It's just not great when we have to convince a fellow Red to give our own players time and support before calling them binjuice.
I also noted at the intra-squad game that Norwood was playing a lead/experienced pro role as the one both geeing up the younger players and supporting them in trying things. He also was brilliant with the fans at the end. Sometimes it's good to have a bit of experience in the squad!
I honestly think we do. guy was a serious bellend. enjoying how well we are doing and calling out nonsense at the same time is fine surely? I’m sure had his opinion been proven correct he’d be crowing on here about it. His lack of presence here is a good thing.
I’d be surprised if Norwood’s ever been this fit in his career. You could see he had a decent sprint in him early in the season but he was knackered after a couple of sprints. Makes you wonder if the reason he picked up so many injuries was a lack of professionalism. I’d certainly keep him in league one & would happily have him as a squad player in the championship.
There was a through ball played to him in the second half where he had to get past the defender and beat Cole to the ball which he managed to do before trying to squeeze it in from a tight angle, and I’m certain 6 month ago he would’ve fallen short of getting there by a few good yards. Absolute praise should be showered onto James, the medical staff, the fitness staff and Duff because they’ve all contributed into getting him into arguably the best shape of his career.
Probably seems a bit harsh but I’m sure he must have a few regrets himself that he’s playing the best football of his career & in the best shape of his life in his 30’s. What might have been & all that. He’s far better than the levels he’s spent most of his career at. Full credit to Norwood for knuckling down & also to the staff at the club. I would’ve never imagined seeing any of Norwood, Cole, Cadden & Kane in the shape they are now back in September.
I honestly think he might do a job in the championship. I’ll make a comparison with someone who I see as (broadly) similar. Dean Windass had one of the best goal scoring seasons of his career (at that high a level) at the age of about 38. In fact according to wiki he scored 198 league goals in his career - 105 of them after he turned 30. Norwood has only played regularly in the football league since he was 28; he was 21 before he was playing regularly in the conference/national league. I reckon he’s got four or five years left in him if he looks after himself. He’s looking fit and hungry just now. We must give him a new contract, whatever division we are in.
Blimey, I'd never realised that. He looks so accomplished. I'm also of the belief that he'll contribute next season even if we're in a higher division. As for going on until he's in his late 30's, I guess that will depend on how long he can keep his phenomenal turn of pace, but I wouldn't bet against him having at least another couple of seasons left in him with us.
The Public School Pele - by Richard Kell (to be recited to the tune of 'We All Hate Leeds Scum') Higgy Hemsworth looked askance 'That Jimmy Norwood has no chance' 'Pour that bin juice down the drain' Jimmy Norwood scores again.
It all just seems a little petty to me. Whatever you think of him and his opinions, he's still a person behind the Internet profile.
No need really in this thread i remember bring old threads up where people say this and that and it's abit sad. Norwood has done well after looking unfit and a loose cannon early on. But I think maybe alot of the credit goes to duff. I hope we get promoted as I don't think he has ever played football higher than league one so would be nice for him to have a shot at it.
What an absolutely ridiculous thread! You’re all grown adults and points scoring is the only thing that crosses your minds after another good win? And to think, some of you bang on about mental health yet try and tear a lad down constantly. …count me out for the foreseeable until something changes.
The fact that he (hemmsy)describes a fellow human being as bin juice is pointless and offensive.I know two wrongs don’t make a right but he(Hemmsy) needs to think before he posts rubbish and harmful stuff on here.
The tone of this thread seems a bit unnecessary - True Norwood has been a good signing for us, in fact as good as I could have hoped Im not going to judge Scarlett on one game and I have no idea how he has played this season. Im happy we signed Norwood though. No need for personal digs
