Two diddy 11 year olds trying to hit the cross bar. Really? I know it’s not impossible, but one look at their footwear and you know they have little to no chance of success. If they’re pulling out kids who are going to be that small/ evidently not that accustomed to kicking a ball couldn’t they give them at least a slight chance of success? knock a ball off a cone or pass it through a small space? I wouldn’t fancy my chances of hitting the crossbar without proper football trainers on. I know it’s only for fun, but it’s also supposedly “entertainment” I don’t find much entertainment in setting up young uns to fail a practically impossible task.
We said exactly the same thing - it was painfully obvious there was no way they could get the (size 5!!!) ball that far off the ground, so why not have them try and hit the post? For next week's halftime entertainment we have Paul, 7, from Ryhill trying to pass a camel through the eye of a needle and Young Nudger being asked to derive the zero'th law of thermodynamics from first principles. £10 club shop voucher up for grabs.
Now Toby's back, they should go back to taking penalties against him. Tenner a goal voucher like the good old days. More "entertaining" than any of the drivel they've come up with for the last decade or more.
Imagine how much more they’d have loved it if it was something they could actually do though! More fun for them and more entertaining for those watching.
Maybe you could suggest it to the club that they get Kylie Minogue or Beyoncé to perform at half time on Saturday?
No chance, I've been making a suggestion to the club every week since 1996 that they get Kylie to perform and they just won't listen.
I'm sure they did and I hope they will (although the girl in question seemed more embarrassed than anything else). It's still not a reason to not work out better ways of doing things. BFC employs loads of football coaches at all levels, many of whom have a gift for working with kids. Yet we have a bloke with a microphone and a (very nice) volunteer setting up the football activity. Would it be beyond the realms of possibility for them between them to come up with an ability appropriate activity? Because last night wasn't the first time it's been cringeworthy. It's almost as if we can't be arsed getting it right.
