    The Amber warning was from 3:00pm onwards so I think you may be jumping the gun a little. 20 to 40cm forecast for the Pennines this evening. Woodhead and Snake pass already closed

    We get excited because it's so rare these days. Paul Hudson, the weatherman, said the high ground around here; Pennines/Peaks used to get over 70 days of snow per year.

    Yeah and the ground temperature has to be right for it to settle. Majority of snow falls as rain from a certain height so we don't know anything about it. To get accumulations everything has to fall correctly into place. That's why it settling is so rare.

    Presumably it's with the forecast in mind?

    Not a drop of snow when I left work in Wath at 4pm, my car is now beached on the banking outside my house in Sheffield. Doubtful I'll make it to work tomorrow.

    I guess the sense is, close school before it gets too bad, not after.
