How about a progressive house set over the top? You could sample some Kevin Keegan quotes too, to make it more interesting.
Literally this. I’m not interested in people talking about football. Just show me the goals and that’s it for me.
I didn't watch it, but i can imagine how it was to watch. Like some silent, haunting, Soviet style programming.
For those of us interested in how the game works and the tactics which go into it fit together the analysis is generally useful. I’m not too interested in what the players or managers have to say as most of the time the players have zero insight and the managers are generally talking at their chairman or fans. If thinking about stuff isn’t your thing I could see why the analysis would be a distraction.
Just did the maths on Lineker's pay vs TV licence spending. He costs each licence payer 5 and a half pence per year. Worth it IMO.
I think it highlights that Lineker is massively overpaid. Forgetting the current going off, people tune in to watch the football. I get that some people will like the analysis but the need to spend so much does not exist. You could get a decent presenter for a fraction of what Lineker is paid. I get paying entertainers to front entertainment shows. I get why pay tv services such as sky and BT will pay for high profile presenters. The fact is the BBC do not need to pay over a million quid to have Lineker front MOTD and live footy. Amazingly people will watch anyway.
But that’s not how the free market works. Whoever replaces Lineker would ask for a lot of money, it’s a big job for the national Broadcaster on a programme that is sold globally for 100s of millions. If I was an agent in charge of any ex footballer who was approached by MOTD to present I’d be asking for big money. Lineker is a very good lead for Football programmes. He speaks well, is happy to laugh and joke on camera and has a Football CV to back it up. I don’t think anyone should be paid over a million a year, but unfortunately the system we live in, not only allows it but encourages it. The BBC are in a competitive market, if they get that appointment wrong, people turn off in droves.
You don't need a ex footballer to present it. Just get s young presenter who is hungry for the exposure. Was none really watching MOTD because Lineker presented it? If we were talking about a entertainment shoe then I would agree about the competive market.
I reckon this could be the start of a new look for Premier League, if the public get what they want & the blackout 3pm ban is lifted then a streaming service for Premier league games will be created, & a all new fresh looking highlights show will be a part of that, Lineker will be lead presenter.
I continue to be amazed the Premeir league sell the rights off to Sky and BT and haven't gone done the route of their own subscription service. It would blow sky out of the water.
I only watched out of curiosity but I did rather enjoy the lack of commentary once I got used to it. Obviously it wouldn't make sense to put out a show like that every week but it was perfectly enjoyable.
