..so long as we are still still solvent. However, for those on here who do take an interest in finances I have a question. Would (will??) promotion back to the Championship clear our current debt and minimise or even eliminate the deficit even if we need to increase our wages budget to compete at that levels? Caveat that with the fact that this Manager combined with the improvements in age, experienced and skill levels of a number of our existing team could well make us able to consolidate our position in the Championship.
Got a feeling we would still have to make a big sale., or two. Mads is only on a 1 year contract after this season, as is Collins & Williams, so I would expect all 3 to be sold regardless, but promotion would benefit us with how high the fees are. We would need to strengthen, so funds must be found from somewhere.
Sadly I think you're probably right. Last time we went up we sold Pinnock and Moore. Fees are much less inflated these days, so selling those three is quite feasible. Although if we can sign Isted I would certainly not be too worried about losing Collins, excellent keeper that he is.
If we get promoted, I don't think the need to sell would be as great. But it's the only way we're going to progress long term. The thing with Collins and Andersen is, we'd probably receive more for them than we're likely to pay for Isted and Thomas, who would be perfect replacements.
Simple solution to this. More bums on seats, the stadium isn't too big its needs modernisation. This can't happen whilst hands are tied with the council. Outright ownership needs to take place very soon. Otherwise its one step forward two back. But ultimately if the fans are there spending money the club thrives.
Oakwell capacity is fine. And the bums on seats money isn’t as lucrative the higher in the football pyramid you go. It’s why many Champ & PL clubs are not rushing into new stands etc.
