I thought it was the singing of the Yorkshire Ripper song that was just before the announcement. The IRA song came just after. Both crap chants that should be scrapped.

Barely heard that, there were about 10 fans singing it. Is that classed as misogynistic or.just childish.

Basically, as others have already pointed out, there are two or three 'chants' that contain discriminatory/abusive language.

I'm not going to waste my time telling folk to stop singing them. But that's why there are PA announcements.

A lot of good stuff happening around BFC right now, with more positive stuff on the horizon. I hope things like this go away.

Thought for a moment it was the “You can shove your Cornish pasties up your Harris” song.

It’s a dated song been sung years and years ever since I’ve been going, can’t understand why its racist or homophobic though, bad taste yeah but Irish terrorists or heads of the Catholic Church aren’t a race and the Effing isn’t like literal .

On Tuesday night the announcement was immediately after the wembley chant, I didn’t hear the IRA chant prior to announcement

The IRA/Pope chant started from the back corner but wasn't picked up and continued by the rest of the stand. The announcement was made and the chant followed again shortly after and a lot more joined in this time around.

Call me crazy but after the ponty end racially abused McLean and the club got a fine and then the ponty end sexually harassed that physio and the club got a fine and then we got threatened with ground closure if it continued then I'd say the only people anyone should be disappointed in are the ones who said '**** that, I'll do what I want ' and continued to chant **** the pope week after week and chant about murder victims but hey that's just me.

I'd love to have Oakwell with everyone singing positive songs but if the ponty end insists on singing discriminatory chants the I'd rather the club do something about it and we have Oakwell with an empty top corner than then turn a blind eye to it and we have an empty stadium

Seems it was the IRA song, again. Must admit it never even registered yesterday, which I suppose is testament to the folk chanting as there was a lot of chants going off, & not the same 2 or 3 either!! But to be fair that song has been chanted for years now it’s just engrained I suppose. It’s just disappointing that the tannoy announcement brings the vibe down somewhat, but if that’s the way forward so be it.

The irony is, the people singing it are probably the same ones who say 'keep politics out of football' when we have the rainbow laces campaign, or when we do any of the anti racism stuff.

I am not racist, not political, and i dont join in the songs in questoon as i simply dont know the words. However i am getting a little concernrd about the incresasing control that is bit by bit being made on what we say and eventually what we think!

Gary Linekar makes a statement refering to a hateful regime and all of sudden they throw the anti-semitic card at him.

I agree it is not nice to make abusive comments about annyone but chants in football are usually sang with nigh on zero intent, by many who have no idea what they are singing. As other posters have said, some of these songs have been sung for years without anyone giving them unneccesary attention that is now being attached to them.

Where has this thought police come from which dictates what we can say!

It is downright wrong to be anti this and anti that. For God's sake what hapened to 'live and let live'. However freedom of speach if not freedom of expression is an extremely essential right in a free democratic society. By all means stop maicious intent being spread. But we need to resist this contuous erosion and thinking up more and more things that we are not allowed to say. Otherwise any form of critisism of the 'establishment' will become a thing of the past.

I think banning deliberately anti racial songs is correct where there is intent behind them but organisations like the undemocratic FA dictating what we can say or chant is going too far, and another small piece of our democratic freedoms is being removed.

Many elderly people who have lived in the 50's and 60's just look on in disbelief on how things that have been said, quite innocently, for years are now considered wrong and are being castigated by this newthink.

I expect i will get a barrage of abuse from all those who want to throw the anti this and that card against anyone like Gary Linekar who says what they feel. However i think we need to be aware, and take great care about this erosion of our freeom of speach and expression which is being slowly taken away from us.

Not from me. I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech and that includes freedom to have a contrary opinion. Provided you don't fall foul of laws on incitement then frankly you should be free to speak your mind, even if your opinion is not a populist one.

A racist chant is wrong and should be banned/stopped whether or not intent is meant. Ignorance doesn’t make it ok.

I agree on racist chanting I’m not sure which race is being abused ? Sure the majority of Irish and Leeds fans and even the Pope are the same race so not sure how it’s racist ? I get it may be hate speech but it’s not racist

I was replying to the post. It seemed to say offensive chanting without intent was ok.
