Do our owners own the women's side as well as ours? Or are they different entities/business etc? Does anyone know? For instance, if we bought a female player, would that count towards the males game in regards to FFP?

Genuine questions, I have absolutely no idea, but would be nice to understand it a little. Been following the ladies on Twitter for a while now, and they've pulled out some incredible results this season!

There's 2 isn't there? Barnsley FC Ladies & Barnsley Women FC. Are they both affiliated to the club? None? One?!

There are several grassroots ladies clubs in Barnsley, including Barnsley FC Ladies and Barnsley Women FC. AFC Pogmoor, Wombwell Town, Junior Tykes, Dearne and District, Penistone Church all have full setups from youth to adult football. Apologies to any that I inadvertently missed!

Barnsley FC Ladies and Barnsley Women are often confused, having arisen from a split a few years back. Barnsley FC Ladies have an association with BFC via Reds in the Community, but are not controlled or under ownership by BFC. Barnsley Women FC are completely independent of BFC.

Reading the JAQ article, I'd expect that some kind of strengthening of the partnership with Barnsley FC Ladies is forthcoming, presumably to include seeing them play on the Oakwell pitch next season. They currently play their home games on the astro pitch at the back of the North stand.

There's the People's Front of Barnsley Women's team, and the Barnsley People's Front Women's team.

I think this is absolutely fantastic, and JAQ is perfect to drive it forward. Can’t wait to see em on Oakwell. Reds.

Isn't it further confused by the fact that the team now known as Barnsley Women, were previously known as Barnsley Ladies. And the current Barnsley ladies team was set up after Barnsley Women changed their name?

I occasionally used to watch Barnsley Ladies when they used to play at the Dorothy Hyman. We're talking 12 years or so ago now though.

I'm not close to the whys and wherefores, but I believe Barnsley Women kept the league affiliation (hence are now higher up the pyramid) while Barnsley FC Ladies kept the name and association with BFC.

Whatever happened, women's football is very much alive in Barnsley with both teams (and more) on the up.

Was it set up after or was it the result of some sort of power struggle within Barnsley Ladies FC?

Well written piece tbf. Would be great to see one of our women’s teams on the main pitch - they deserve to be on it.

Quite a few clubs now are going down the same route as well. And rightly so.
