One not to lose, but feel we are on a roll. 0-3 Barnsley victory. First penalty in a decade converted by Connell. They implode & Max Watters gets a brace. Then I woke up.
1-0 reds. Scrappy old game decided by a Bobby Thomas header in the 2nd half. Get a fiver on scorecast and thank me later!* *don’t, obviously.
1-0 to Wycombe after a soft challenge just outside our penalty area which carries 0n into the area and isdeemed by the myopic ref to be a penalty/sending off offence. This is shortly followed by a 'nailed on' penalty to Barnsley turned down by the ref when we are battling with 10 men after the sending off. Wycombe also get the rub of the green throughout the match with 50/50s going their way! No reflection on the lads but after a couple of recent half decent performances by officials I have a gut feeling we are due a bad 'un. Sorry for the pessimism
We've definitely got plenty to deal with what with Mr Breakspear in charge (7 home wins and 2 draws on his last 9 league visits to Wycombe combined with 1 draw and 3 defeats when reffing us), the stage-managed play-acting and antics of the home players (has that guy stopped Neymar-rolling from the game in the Val season yet?), the general rough-house tactics they will deploy and another sloping, bobbly playing surface. However, Duff has magically confounded the odds in similar circumstances this season and so, unless there is too much thrown at us to overcome from the officials, I'll take us to come through 2-1, although in truth I'd take a point and a clean bill of health.
They'll be very physical (again) and try to stop us playing, as did Bristol Rovers. So I'm going 1-1 at best.
I’m only predicting that Wycombe will be facing a different side than the home defeat. That’s in terms of drive, energy, strength and quality, all with Duff behind it.
I think last weekend showed that we're more than happy to get stuck in if needed. Expecting a busy afternoon for Kane & Norwood.
You could be right, thinking of some of the fierce tackles put in by the likes of Kitching, Cadden and Philips in recent matches. Kitching in particular when he's fired up..
