Danny Murphy in the Daily Mail today talking his uncle Paul and his twin brother. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/foo...own-are-doing-my-uncle-paul-proud/ar-AA18NL6g
never knew they were related? paul was an absolute legend here, fantastic player for us, grimsby also regard him as one of their greatest, pity his time at oakwell came where the miners strike culled quite a lot of our support, he never scored for us but remember a 30 yard screamer heading into the top corner v's everton in the cup only for neville southall to somehow tip it over the bar
Paul Futcher was my favourite player in a reds shirt. Once met him a few years ago on a night out in Huddersfield. Had a conversation around where I saw Ron score an hatrick at Charlton, he was convinced it wasn’t Charlton. We agreed to agree to disagree but a week later he sent a message via a friend to say I was correct..RIP top man was Futch.
He says that Ron was the gentle one, didn't he kick the changing room door off it's hinges after getting sent off?
Ron played 19 games for us (5 goals) but is probably remembered more for the dressing room door incident.
No, I'm sure it was Ron. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Paul was ever sent off playing for us.
Definitely Ron. Re sending off. I've got a recollection bouncing around my head. I think he did. But i wouldn't bet on it.
I can remember a couple of red cards for Paul, once at home to Chelsea in the league in Sep/Oct 1988 (Steve Cooper was also sent off) and the novelty of a red card after the final whistle given to him by George Tyson in 1988 after we'd lost 3-2 at home to Ipswich (the David Currie 2 Dalian Atkinson 3 game, Currie's debut I think?). The ref actually brought him back down the tunnel to make sure those of us still in the ground saw the card.
Paul was my favourite defender - probably best I've seen at Oakwell. Not many memories of Ron apart from the Charlton game obviously
Hat trick then sent off, dressing room door hanging off. Played Southampton in mid week after that in FA Fup and beat them 2-1. Getting Liverpool at home in next round where Ian Rush got a 2nd half hat trick.
Just before he scored his first, I said to mi dad that he looked like a cart-horse. Clive Baker drops the ball and Rush pounced...
Didn't Paul finish his career with struggling Halifax, at the bottom of Lg Two ?. It was a shame it had to end that way for him.
No. He left us for Halifax, who then sold him to Grimsby a few months later. He had a succesful spell at Grimsby for about two or three years.
Ahh did he, for some reason I thought it had ended up as relegation for him and them, to the Conference.
Set me thinking, have we had more sets of brothers play fot tarn at first team level ? Not necessarily in the same side at the same time. . Only 2 I can think of. Futcher's and Robledo's
