I'm not having this 'they were the better team" nonsense that us being peddled bybthe wednesday fans. Of course they attacked more after 15 minutes and we sat back. They were two nil down. What else where they going to do. On both occasions that the scores were level thre supereds went into a two goal advantage. 4-2. The best team won
I’d have taken a draw when it went back to 2-2 but we kicked on and won it. I will say the Fowls are one of the best sides to come to Oakwell this season but we matched them and I think Duff made the difference with his changes
Ha. So was I. But that is the nature of watching your own team and always fearing the worst. I'm just making the point that in hindsight we deserved the win.
I tend to agree. Wednesday were definitely the better team between our second and their second. I think we sat back a little too much, we didn't play as well as we can and they're a strong side. But we finished the game much stronger than they were. They were absolutely shot, while our front three were just warming up. A game lasts 90 minutes plus injury time. Playing well for 60 of those minutes but being dead on your feet and 4-2 behind at the final whistle while the opposition are still ready and able to rip you to pieces isn't the credentials of the best team. The best team won.
They were only better than us in the second half because we kept giving them the ball their finishing kept us in the game Inspiring substitutions determination fitness and the will to win, won it for the super REDS
They are a big team with big players, Bannan was the quarter back spraying balls long up to Smith & Gregory. We struggled in the midfield battle, with Wednesday winning every 2nd ball, but they also rode their luck with lucky bounces etc. Fortunately for us Duff has ingrained a belief into the players, & every single one are playing for eachother! If we could bottle it up we would be billionaires. I just pray to god this team are rewarded for their efforts come the season end with promotion. They more than deserve it.
At 2-2 I thought if they go up they'll come back down playing like that. They like to bully teams and rely on Bannon who won't have the time on the ball in the championship. Get the ball on the deck and they are vulnerable - and then we started to do that and bang bang. We stood up to their tactics and played better football and deserved the three points.
Agree about Bannon he’s a very good 3rd division player with loads of experience at a higher level if they do go up think he will struggle next season
How many times have we come away from that place when we’ve dominated the play and they’ve scored late on? Well it’s about time they had it back….. I hope it hurts every one of them as much as it has us over the last 20 years.
So true we’ve been the better team a number of times at Hillsboro over the years and come back empty handed so yeah on balance of play it probably flattered us but i don’t give a **** ,we took our chances and they didn’t YOU REDS
Derby game. No time on the ball at all. They were more physically able than us and tended to dominate. Hard to complain if we'd have lost that game. Their crosses were far superior to ours. Though neither team seemed to know how to defend a cross. Thankfully they didn't know how to head or boot their crosses in. We took our chances. They didn't. There's a reason why they are above us in the league though. We all saw it tonight. Being more forensic, our defensive right side was exposed tonight. Both Thomas B and Williams J noticeably underperformed. On the next day they'll be OK, hopefully.
For me, Wednesday looked complacent even at 2-0. Soft goal let them back in. My Owls mate, watching with me in upper west, said it means more to Barnsley because players have learned as much. We taught them a lesson, more about respect & passion perhaps, than football..
