Wigan fans are being told that the problem is that the owners have illiquid assets and are struggling to sell them quickly enough in order to bankroll the club.

I think I'd be asking the owners why the football clubs existence is predicated on the performance of outside business interests. If it can't stand on it's own two feet (within reason) then it's fcked anyway.

Further proof that the fit and proper owners test is easier to pass than a covid test.

Caulker's not covered himself in glory there speaking about 'oppression' as a (probable) millionaire who can sleep soundly at night. Well meaning though, just a bit sloppily delivered. There may well be staff on the breadline who are not being paid by Wigan.

It's positive he's spoken out though. How are shysters like these owners ever allowed to get involved?

Given Wigan's backlog of financial troubles and the size of their fanbase, I really think this could be the second Bury-type scenario on our hands. Northern Premier League soon for Wigan? Which some would argue is about their historical level!

He’s tried to sound too clever and come across as a bit thick. The sentiment is right though.

The oppression line is a quote rather than his own words though. He's probably seen it from some meme. But there'll be some players in that squad who may end up missing bills now that are two weeks behind on pay. The real danger is that next month is nearly due, and no matter how much you earn, you live within your means and missing two months pay could screw you up completely.

All the fit and proper test can ever do is screen people that have had charges against them in the past. It can't guard against how they might prioritise the football club against their other businesses in future. This is why an independant regulator has been suggested, and FFP needs to be replaced with something that serves an actual purpose.

The idiot signed for them in January when they already had well known money worries, as they have had many times in recent years. He was still daft enough to sign for them when it was clear payment issues could arise.

Do you reckon he maybe signed for them cos they were offering 3x what anyone else was. That worked well.

EFL to blame apparently, as the fit and proper person test obviously wasn't done correctly.

    Honestly.

Not entirely sure what they expect the EFL to have done? They were all delighted when they were handing out the contracts that would be reliant on the owner putting their hands in their pockets, an owner they knew nothing about.
