How many points do we think are required. I’m thinking 97 which gives us 5 points margin for error ie we can stand one defeat and one draw. Big ask, but think we are capable.
Objectively it looks like 95+ for automatic, but other teams will surely drop some points? Brilliant game as it was on Tuesday, both sides were clearly jaded. Injuries and suspensions are already hitting Wednesday and Plymouth. Maybe 92/93 will be enough?
And that still might not be enough. Can see Wednesday and Plymouth both hitting 100 points, which would be insane.
Dropped too many daft points earlier in the season for automatics.3rd place is our limit in my opinion
Can't see us catching Wednesday. Ipswich we have to win our game in hand and then beat them. If we do that I think that makes us favourite to finish above them. Plymouth, for me, are the team to catch and we need to stay with them until they have two away games in a row at Exeter and Shrewsbury. Their away record is iffy and those two look problematic for them.
It would be absolutely outstanding if Forest Green beat Wednesday tomorrow. I’m doing the sheffield half marathon in my reds shirt then off to the boozer to watch it
They’ve all said the pressure is on us and not them. I disagree, the pressure is fully on Wednesday. Their deluded fans now expect them to go and win their next 8 games. Seriously, they do. The pressure on those players is enormous. We just need to keep winning to keep that pressure on. Sunday is a big game for them, Forest Green have turned a corner apparently under the new manager but just haven’t got that win yet, it’ll be lovely if that comes tomorrow. If Wednesday aren’t comfortably up at half time their fans will turn. Even a point tomorrow might turn a lot of their fans, then the pressure is really on. I wouldn’t expect Wednesday to get 100 points and I wouldn’t be surprised if we finished above them.
Can’t see Plymouth dropping more than 4 points if I’m honest. Very easy looking run in. Think we’ll come up short as we’re bound to slip somewhere too. I think we’d all have taken play offs last August.
Agree, I think 3rd is the realistic goal. For me it’s more to do with we still have a tendency to throw an awful performance in and have got away with it recently but think one will come where we won’t and that will be the difference.
Think you’re being too kind there TBH. Bolton away, Lincoln at home, Shrewsbury away, Exeter local Derby away even Bristol Rovers is classed as one down there are all potential banana skins for them to drop points
Gotta be fair though mate. They’ve just gone 23 unbeaten. They’re still 6 points ahead on level games and have a pretty kind run in. If we were in their shoes, we’d also be confident of winning every one of those remaining games. With GD, we realistically need to pick up 7 points on them in the remaining games. I just can’t see them dropping that many points at all.
The problem is that everyone outside the top 8 is absolute dogshit, and no one in the top 4 ever seems to lose a game to them, certainly not since Christmas. And given that most teams in the mix now mainly have games against the top 8 left, you just can't see anyone dropping enough points for us to overtake them.
I just hope that if we do miss out we can pick ourselves up for the playoffs. You'd always prefer to be the team that sneaks into 6th with momentum rather than the team that narrowly misses out on autos.
Wednesday have enough points and games in hand to win at a canter. Forest Green is an ideal pick-me-up game. Plymouth have remaining fixtures that couldn’t be any better even if they were hand-picked by their chairman. I can see us overhauling Ipswich but I think we’ll be in 3rd or 4th after we’ve played those 10 games.
But you could argue the other way. We're now the ones with an unbeaten run to protect while that monkey is off Wednesday's back now.
