But this is supposed to be transit accomodation. They're probably in the wrong place for domestic homeless and tax payers.
Homelessness and Immigration are two very, very different issues. Conflating them doesn't solve either or help anyone. The government are badly failing on both topics. Immigration can be easily fixed if handled correctly, homelessness is much more difficult and needs a government who care about non tax paying, non voters.
Yes I have. I don't envy the next government in clearing up the dirt-box excretions from the last 13 years....
Aren't these people homeless? Not their fault they are fleeing war torn parts of the world, many of which are as a result of US & UK foreign policy. I agree we need to look after our own too.
Popodoms are not that buoyant, otherwise the government would have looked at a huge floating pickle tray as a solution.
I'd say we need to look after our own FIRST. There are plenty of destitute ex-Servicemen on the streets who deserve better. One thing I find offensive about this whole thing is that some people are saying that ex-military married quarters are not up to standard for immigrants to use. What???? Surely a self-contained house or flat has to be better than a hotel room? I lived in a few MQs back in the 70s and 80s and some of the houses left a lot to be desired although, in general, those on RAF camps were better than some of the appalling conditions that soldiers had to endure in the big garrison towns like Aldershot. We were privileged in the RAF as we normally got houses although I found that when I was posted to Germany a lot were forced to live off base in flats which were, in fact, pretty good on the whole. I was at RAF Rheindahlen and a lot of people I knew said they would rather live in the local communities than on the camp.
Definitely. The issue surely is just about "divide & rule". We live in a rich country. We need to help all people. Not sure the multimillionaire who is our PM gives a flying F$$k about anyone though. I've been dealing with my Dad's healthcare for the past 2 years & the issue with social services is not on their agenda. Prior to that it was Truss, Johnson & May. Says it all. Just pick on the 1% and you'll stay p1ssing on the rest of us, who work hard & pay our taxes.
The reason migrants get house in hotels etc is they are needed to be kept a track of while there asylum application is on going so need some permanent residency until that is sorted which can take years. Last time I'm sure I read there is over 70k applications for asylum ongoing in the UK.
Homelessness amongst ex service people provides the right wing with a very handy stick with which to beat the immigrant. It’s not in the Tory interest to provide a solution, which is why they don’t..
And if the Tories hadn't decimated the NHS and mental health services then there might not be so many ex servicemen in the situation they are.
Or again if Blair and Bush hadn't taken part in a illegal war there wouldn't be so many ex service men with ptsd. Just abit of perspective.
Even if it's the old transit accommodation such as the one which was used at Tenby that was vandalised and set on fire due to apparent 'living conditions'...... A roof over their head, food, heating, ablution blocks with showers, potable drinking water etc..... Its behaviour like that which makes me think there are more deserving people and that the system is been abused.
Trying to close the door has resulted in the "little boats" "problem" we have today. The solution is to give them a safe and legal route and process the claims swiftly. It's really not rocket science.
RAF Scampton would qualify on everything except the last part. There is not neither the infrastructure or industry to accommodate the qty being suggested into the local community.
Hmm, could go down the simple route of insulting you, but will try and be the bigger person here. You obviously have no understanding of the immigration system and why it is currently broken. To start with the basics, there has always been immigration in the UK, go back long enough and eventually you'll find all of us were foreign once, I'm Irish, a hated immigrant not so long ago. Immigration has been massively beneficial to British society over the decades, the Huguenots brought hops for beer as the perfect example. The issue at the moment isn't immigrants, it is the Tory run immigration system and it is absolutely simple to fix. Currently there is a lot of war in the world, much of it the can be attributed back to colonialisation like the Sykes/Picot line causing so much conflict in the Middle East. Asylum seekers are people fleeing war, torture and suffering, they are people who have lost everything and are looking for a safe space, they aren't always poor uneducated people. They often want to come to the UK specifically as they speak English or already have family here. Many were doctors, teachers, scientists etc, etc before war broke out and they had to flee. 81% of the people who arrive in the UK by dinghies are accepted for asylum, so most are genuine cases. The difference between now and in the past and the reason we have dinghies crossing the channel is that there is no legal way to claim asylum to the UK at the moment. None. This obviously causes desperate people who have lost everything to risk their life's in these crossings for the dream of a better life. The Tory's then use this as propaganda, call it an 'invasion' and trick people like the Prince of Risborough into believing the problems within this country are because of 'them over there'. The issue is so easy to fix, we have 70,000 waiting for asylum being housed in hotels at the government and hence the taxpayers expense. Instead of these humongous bills the government could simply open up a couple of asylum centers in France and hire, say 1,000 staff at a much lower cost than the price of hotels for 70,000 each night. This would stop people having to arrive on dinghies, save the government a fortune, and allow some of the least fortunate people in the world to be dealt with humanely and processed properly, they can then arrive in the UK and contribute to society, use their talents, get jobs, pay taxes and become a benefit, not a burden. Also this weeds out the 19% who aren't genuine asylum seekers and ensures that criminal gangs are not easily entering the country. We could then enact a policy with anyone arriving by boat to be deported, it's literally a win on every level. The government won't do this as they don't want papers spinning it that they are helping foreigners instead of their own. They worry they'll lose the support of people who don't understand the situation, but don't want to help anyone foreign. Instead we spend billions more on a completely broken system, which destroys lives and benefits no ones, other than the rich hotelier mates of Tories who are housing the asylum seekers. All for a few cheap headlines which pander to Daily Mail readers.
