You're wasting your breath mate. I've posted similar multiple times in the past and you still just get the "we're a soft touch," "why don't they stay in France" "we need to look after our own first" myopic, xenophobic ***** regurgitated endlessly.

The government say they want to go to war on people smugglers but it's them creating the market.

Thank you SOOO much for your lengthy explanation of something I “know nothing about” and also for not “insulting” me. How on earth did I manage to get through over 40 years of service to the Crown without helpful people like you to put me straight?

The other thing to remember is that asylum seekers are placed in hotels as a result of 3 policies:

1). There is insufficient social housing... because the Tories sold it off and refused to replace it
2). Processing is too slow... because the Tories have underfunded the Home Office and refuse to invest so they can make political points out of their own failures
3). Asylum accommodation was privatised in 2013... allowing hotels to make more money than they would normally by overcharging the Home Office (and as a result us) to host asylum seekers while they are processed.

We are currently paying France £100m per year for 5 years to police the beaches to stop small boats. For £10m per year, we could put 100,000 on the overnight ferry from France and have change to buy them a meal and a drink.

The Tories are playing the tune and certain people are dancing.

You did a Meatloaf on me there. Apart from the kissing bit, obvs...

Sort of makes you wonder if any of the current government have financial links to France-based people traffickers.

What’s the point when I know nothing about the subject. I’d rather talk about football. I don’t need to debate subjects like this on a football board.

If we hadn't gone into the middle east and thrown our weight about illegally there wouldn't be so many migrants crossing the world to get to the u.k Blair and Bush opened that can of worms.
They also wouldn't be so many ex servicemen homeless or with ptsd.
Although I have seen figures on ex servicemen homeless but alot of the homeless people I see in town haven't served in the forces and if they have god help us.

I agree, we should look after our own, but let's be clear, this government aren't going to do that, it doesn't matter how much money they save by fracking up the immigrants, letting the roads go to ruin, not allowing HS2 to get fully built etc. They won't spend those savings on those that need it.

They are happy to **** on veterans, the NHS, the poor etc, if it means they can give backhanders to their friends and tax breaks to the already wealthy.

The Royal British Legion estimate that 3-6% of homeless people are ex-forces. Although this figure may be inaccurate due to the way statistics are collected.

This is thought to be around 100-400 sleeping rough every year - although that is only a fraction of those who are homeless (sofa surfing, hostels and temporary accommodation account for many more).

For context, there are 1.6-2million ex-services living in the UK. Shelter estimates at least 271,000 people are homeless including 123,000 children.

These numbers are shocking all around, so it is always surprising that so many ex-forces support the political party that has brought this about while also reducing the size of the forces and giving below-inflation pay rises for those still serving.

Incidentally, the British Legion are sitting on reserves of £70m - enough to fund a hotel room for the next 5 years for every single one of the 400 ex-forces sleeping rough.
