PITCH INCURSIONS UPDATE Club News The Club would like to issue an update regarding supporters encroaching onto the field of play. Continue reading on the official site...
Which is exactly why I started the thread last week after the match. At some point the FA are going to come down hard on us, far harder than they already have and its already cost us a few grand. Theres really no need. Its embarrassing.
So at the last game of the season at every football (well, most) ground there should be tens of thousands arrested and brought before a court.? It seems the rules in general are only applied to a few clubs, with so called bigger and more prestigious clubs getting away with financial murder, racist, homophobic, mysoginist and threatening chanting, and people on the pitch. I'm not saying what's right and wrong, but for goodness sake apply the same rules to all clubs!
Whilst I understand what you are saying. The mass invasion is generally at the end of the last match of the season. And a blind eye has always been used in such cases. During a game it is frowned upon. I don't think we are picked on. It just doesn't make the headlines. Unless a really serious occurrence happens.
Going to sound like an old fart but as someone who has seen us be promoted from every division I’ve never been on the pitch and tried to celebrate all our successes from the terrace or stands. Can’t believe anyone would not prefer seeing the players celebrate on the pitch - like at Wembley - than being hounded off the pitch like what seems to happen at the end of every season. Edit - I do realise that this wasn’t necessarily the point Lord tyke was making.
I appreciate why the Club has to do this. But there's a duty of care both ways here. When Liam Kitching vaults over the hoardings into the crowd, and everyone else follows him, fans are gonna get caught up in that. They just are. I desperately hope none of the fans involved in those celebrations in the Ponty end, ended up getting arrested.
I'm not a fan of pitch invasions even at the end of the season but then I'm old enough now to not particularly care about running about after players etc. I understand ground regulations and any pitch incursion is, strictly, against the rules/law and I get it. However, I always think there is a huge difference where a fleeting, joyous celebration is involved. Especially one where the fan jumps straight back into the stand and even more so when the players are half in the stand themselves anyway. Whilst I understand the club's position, it would seem very harsh for anyone involved in the joyous scenes against Wednesday to get a 3 year ban and associated criminal charges. The simple and obvious answer is to stay in the stands as it is so easy to do... but, just sometimes, common sense and a verbal warning would surely suffice.
Liam Kitching didn't go into the crowd though did he? There would be repercussions if he did. He vaulted the electronic advert thingy, he didn't go over the wall into the crowd - Some of the crowd may have gone over the wall, but that's a different thing.
To all intents and purposes, I believe he did. He went into the crowd. The fact there's a strip off 5mm plywood separating them at knee height, is neither here nor there really. This video at 8.30 is probably the best evidence. I'm not condoning people running on the pitch. I'm just saying that fans will get caught up in the moment, if players go into the crowd like that. If any of those fans have now been arrested, they've effectively been treated as criminals, for celebrating with the players. I think that's wrong, and lacks common sense.
I was going to say this. He only went up to the wall of the Ponty End and not into the stand itself. Pretty harsh to put any blame on him really.
It's not almost every ground though. In fact, I bet there's less than 10 clubs in the EFL who have a end of season pitch invasion. I've been to loads of grounds on the last day of the season, and I reckon I can count on one hand the number of clubs who have had an invasion. And yes, every club in breach will be punished. Contrary to popular belief, it's not just Barnsley.
There were multiple incursions at the Wednesday game and it wasn't just being over the wall. Multiple people well onto the playing surface, including one in the East Stand next to the North Stand.
Give over. You've basically just said he did go into the crowd apart from not going into the crowd. That 5mm thick piece of plywood is actually a concrete wall isn't it. all he's done is jump over the additional advertising board and then stopped before the concrete wall which we all know is the front if the stand. I completely fail to see how him doing that justifies in any way a fan jumping over the wall, running onto the pitch diving on the penalty spot in the middle of the game. And frankly if people are so weak minded that they get caught up I it and can't help themselves from running onto the pitch then maybe football isn't for them as they are unable to control their actions.
There was a guy in front of us (just to the East Stand side of the goal) who slipped and smashed into the wall. His nose was a right mess and the stewards were quick to act to make sure he was neither crushed nor concussed
I have to say this all baffles me. The incursions against Wednesday were harmless enough and just high spirits BUT.....those fans cannot fail to have heard multiple times, probably at every game, that they're not allowed to go on the pitch. They must also be aware of what the consequences will be. They're obviously big enough fans to be so ecstatic they lose all control so, presumably, a three year ban or something similar would hit them hard. Yet they still do it. Are their brains made of cheese?
