Some inspiring British running feats this year and some very old records broken. Today, Eilish Mccolgan wins the Berlin half marathon in 1 hr 5 mins, breaking the British record. She already beat the Paula Radcliffe's 21 year old record in February. Also Robbie Britton this month beat a 41 year old British record for the furthest distance covered in 24 hours - 172 miles. Ultra distance running isn't covered much in this country because there's no money in it, but that is an amazing feat of mental toughness.
Yeah, that's the stuff of legends. Damian Hall and Jasmine Paris did well this year though neither finished.
Also watched one with Courtney Daulwater which was incredible, although I can't remember the name.... She's insanely strong. Ran 240 miles in 59 hours! Edit: beat everyone, including the men by 10 hours!
While eating mash potatoes and honey waffles ... I think those are her staples of choice. Camille Herron just notched the women's world record this week as well for 48 hours - 270 miles. Though that was on a track. I ran with Robbie Britton at the Gloucester Track 24 race last August when he was going for the British record, but he had to bail out just past 100 miles as it was 34c.
The world record is 198.6 miles in 24 hrs. By a Lithuanian guy. Kin hell . I'm exhausted thinking about it.
Yeah Sorokin, he's another level. He's not a light guy either, like an Ethiopian runner or something. But he has an amazng engine. I think he was the National Lithuanian Kayaking champion as a youth then got fat and started smoking, etc, and decided to change his life around. There's some out-there characters in the world of ultra-running
