Can't see why he would? Plenty of championship clubs nearer home surely.

Can’t see that. Think he’ll stick around for another season unless a Championship job nearer his family home comes up.

I’d like to believe you but ££££ is far more powerful than loyalty.

It is, but there are people out there. That money is not their primary concern. Eg. Bigger wage but no structure.

I think geography will play a big part in his next job move. Listening to his post match interviews,he drives from Barnsley to Cheltenham after every home game and then drives back presumably first thing Monday morning. Becomes quite gruelling after a while. Just better hope the Bristol City job doesn't become available any time soon

personally doubt he'll be here next season, if we don't go up. I imagine a fair few champ clubs will have him in their sights.

Duff is as loyal as they come in the modern game. I think he will stay regardless of what league we are in, unless it comes down to family. As he gets older maybe his perception will change (on constant travelling/time apart etc.).

If we don’t go up the club will either need more cash from the owners or more sales.

I don’t think it would be a surprise if a bigger club came in and paid significant compensation for The manager.

When we speak about loyalty remember he joined us from Cheltenham to join what was a relegated basket case club in financial strife. His loyalty to Cheltenham was pretty limited.

That’s how football is, it doesn’t make him a bad person it’s just reality.

Absolutely, zero loyalty in footy, players and coaches are not fans.
Duff has been a breath of fresh air and a fantastic coach, I want him here as long as possible. I doubt he will go to Huddersfield but he will be off in the next two years and it will be for more money and a more lucrative challenge. For now he's our man and he is doing an amazing job.

You are probably right on the compo side of things, and in that scenario Duff may feel his hand is being forced. We've seen it before.

In terms of loyalty, I disagree. 8 years as a player at Cheltenham (96-04), 12 years at Burnley (04-16), and 4 years as a manager at Cheltenham (18-22) says otherwise. It took him 3 seasons to get Cheltenham out of League Two, his first stab at management, so he persevered and built a solid foundation prior to leaving. As for his departure, I think he saw a good opportunity at a relatively successful club (established second-tier club, historically) with a lot of history, to further his career in management. He has said himself he didn't know the extent to which the rot had set in on Grove Street until his feet were firmly under the table (he was shocked at realising the disillusionment of fans and the mess we were in as a club once he arrived), so I don't think the 'relegated basket case club in financial strife' accurately describes his view of things prior to arriving. I think he is a relatively ambitious guy but one who, as he has said himself, likes a project and stays loyal to a club for longer than most (in the modern game).

I take your point on any offers that come in for him, and wouldn't trust our board to try and keep him if the 'money was right' (in their eyes), but I don't think his loyalty can be questioned based on the evidence so far.

We'll see. Hope you're right. Personally I think he's as ambitious as anyone else. He left Cheltenham for another Club in the same league, so we shouldn't be surprised if he leaves a L1 Club for the Championship. That's not disloyal, it's just absolutely normal ambition.

I hope you are right. He’s done a great job for us but then doing a great job for us normally means leaving pretty soon, players and managers alike.

This is what we are predisposed to fear as a fanbase following the recent pattern, and I understand it.

I hope Duff stays true to his word, stays with us, and tries to build something regardless of the outcome of the season; if the board takes the first offer in the summer and he moves to a club such as Huddersfield, I will eat my words and be disappointed (though not completely surprised). If he moves on for family reasons, I absolutely get it.
