Absolutely pathetic lads, I hope your pleased with yourselves!!. Nobody should lose a match like that, after scoring over 500 in the first innings.
And bear in mind this is the Lg One level of cricket now, seeing as we're out of the Championship.

The YouTube commentary was gushing at the end about what a fantastic game etc etc. if I’d been sat there today I would have been spitting feathers watching them chuck the game away.

I was actually tempted to go this morning. Glad I didn’t!

Absolute cracking game of cricket. All 4 results possible with 10 minutes play left.

There was nothing pathetic about it at all, I’d question the last time those commenting actually went to a county cricket match. Leicestershire played out of their skin to win that, something they’ll not do again for 5 years probably so let’s give them the credit they deserve. Yorkshire will of course be gutted but should be commended for setting attacking fields all day, it would have been very easy to play out a draw.

 

Could do with coming back for some four day Cricket to get ready for the Ashes

 

It's how 4/5 day cricket should be played and will generate more interest amongst fans and more importantly bums on seats .

 

I agree that this is how the game should be played but I am thinking about that from a neutral's perspective, not from an "it's my team who have lost" scenario. I hate the fact that a game can be slowed down to the point where it's only a matter of time before both captains say that's enough and take the draw, but I also hated the fact that (on paper) a poor side were able to race to victory at a ground where winning was a distant memory. This so-called "bazball" style has certainly improved the England team's five day performances but I didn't like seeing Leicestershire adopting it as well!

Yesterday was knife edge stuff for the last hour or so. Before that it was a slog fest for both teams on a poor wicket for bowlers. Towards the end the crowd was swelled in the new Howard stand by rugby fans watching the cricket before their rugby match started next door. Maybe a few more locals came out to watch the conclusion, not knowing what the result might be. So yes, from that point of view it was a "cracking match".

But would we as Barnsley fans be saying the same if the Reds went 3-0 up at home and then lost 3-4 or drew 3-3 (results that have happened in the past). Would we be walking up Oakwell Lane saying "wow, that was terrific stuff and congratulations to Exeter or Ipswich, or whoever, for making it so exciting"? I'd suggest the answer to that question is a resounding NO. I'm deflated if I've seen us get beaten, whatever the circumstances. It doesn't matter how much better the other side might be - I expect us to WIN every match. Fantasy, obviously, but that's what being a fan is all about......isn't it?

 

How anybody can defend that pathetic defeat, after the 500+ first innings score, is beyond me.
As somebody else suggested, it would be like us drawing 4-4, after leading 4-0.

I'd take nothing away from Leicestershire and can't grumble at either the declaration which was spot on or the intent to win from Yorkshire in terms of the fields Lyth set.

However, surely there needs to be some accountability taken by Gough for assembling such an impotent military medium seam attack (they were barely getting into the mid-70s but still lacked control), Gibson for his totally uninspiring leadership and bowling coach Kabir Ali for seemingly worsening all the bowlers (when was the last time we took 20 wickets on a half decent pitch?)

Most of all - and here the 'P' word is totally applicable - whoever is the fielding coach needs firing on the spot - both Patel and Handscombe dropped early on from what at this level were sitters, amongst several misses throughout the game.

 

Far stronger side this week with Fisher fit for once and Shakeel brought in because Neil Wagner is injured. Shakeel is here for at least the next four games and look at his record from his last ten games........

Disgraceful that the Bristol ground is in such a state. I know they can’t cover every inch of it but that’s really poor at a county ground. They should be deducted points for that

 

I absolutely concur.
Bairstow isn’t in the squad so it’s looking more and more likely that he may not make the start of the Ashes.
Also, over in the IPL, Root isn’t getting selected, Brook has failed so far and it’s rumoured that Archer has an injury.
Wood is a big success and ( so far ) he has avoided injuries.

 

Shame about Bairstow, though I didn't like the idea that he could just take the gloves for the first time in years to get his place back in the side. Particularly after doing so well as a specialist batter. If he was available, I'd have picked Root to open, and put Bairstow and Brook at four and five. Root's the most likely Bazball opener in English conditions anyway.

Hope the rumour isn't true about Archer, he deserves a bit of luck with injury.
