We are to Forest Green, what Luton are to us. Off the top of my head, Nicky Cadden, Jack Aichinson, James Norwood, Liam Kitching and Ethan Pinnock all played for Forest Green before joining the reds. We are priced at 1/2 to pick up 3 points at League 1's basement club. If we do so, it will consign Duncan Ferguson's men back to league 2 at the first time of asking. The home side are 6/1 to upset the applecart, which is a shorter price than what they were when they turned Wednesday over just a few weeks ago. Forest Green have won just 5 league games all season, 4 of those have been at home. They've kept just 3 clean sheets all season, and the last time they scored more than once in a league game was the 3rd December. 2 of their 5 league wins have come at home to teams currently in the top 6 (Bolton & Wednesday). Rovers haven't scored since their unexpected victory against Wednesday, which is their only victory in their last 22 games in all competitions. Jordan Garrick's winner vs the Owls was just Rovers' 14th goal on home soil all season. Our away form has taken a dip of late, with back to back defeats on our travels. A poor display at Exeter was followed up by a frustrating afternoon in Burton, which put a full stop on a 6 game unbeaten run away from home. With that being said, we still have the 3rd best away record in the division, accumulating 32 points, which is more than Forest Green have managed home and away combined. Referee Craig Hicks has dished out 97 yellow cards in his 28 games this season and just 1 red. That's an average of almost 3.5 cards a game. The most he has given out in a single game this season just happens to be the one Barnsley game he's taken charge of, our 2-0 defeat at Charlton. I think the consensus at the time was that he was whistle happy, and gave a fair share of soft decisions in both directions. If I remember right, Charlton's second goal should have been disallowed for offside. I've tried to find the match day thread from the time, but not been able to for some reason. Our only other encounter with him was a 1-1 draw at home to Walsall early in the Daniel Stendel era. The Wednesday result shows that Forest Green have it in them to cause an upset, however I do think they met an Owls side who were shell-shocked from their unbeaten run suddenly coming to an end. We picked up a much needed booster on Easter Monday, to get our promotion push back on track, and I fancy us to carry on where we left off here. I'm going for 0-2 with Cole getting a brace. As a bonus, here is a message from Greta Ferguson: https://www.tiktok.com/@brianstewart9797/video/7193052345872174342
We'll make hard work of it but 2-1 Reds. Sad that they are unlikely to stay up, it's more interesting having clubs like theirs in the division.
3-0 routine victory I predict. Cole, Kane and a late third from Kitching as he rifles in a 30-yarder and then bows his head respecting his former fans. So wished I could have got to this one, being just down the road from where I lived for so many years. I never dreamed in a million years that this little village side would one day be lining up against the Reds in a league match. Good on them for getting so far up the pyramid but it's relegation this Saturday for them.
I'm not seeing the routine victory that many others are for this. Recent away performances and results have been poor.
I'll be there and hoping for the easy win some are expecting. However, I think it will be another tough one. Our away form has been poor for a few weeks now. If we get the early goal we'll be fine. Just hope the ref has better eyesight than the one at Burton......
Got to fancy us in this one with their minus 40 odd goal difference but stranger things have happened I'm going for 2 nil barnsley
I reckon a 3 or 4 to one win for the Reds. The more difficult battles probably lay ahead, but they will give us a game, no doubt.
4-0,to Barnsley. Team have had a semi -blip but I have a feeling will run riot here. FGR are a good club but they are bottom for a reason with poor goals against. Duff will nail this one in my opinion.
2-3 They'll play like a team with nothing to lose ......... we'll play like a team really nervous and just edge it. Norwood (2) and Cole.
