    Don't bother!!!
Been there today lòks like 1 pub and an expensive hotel bar in the town? Centre then a mile walk up a 1 in 10 hill to the ground where you will find a fan zone sized mobile bar and a marquee. God knows how they coped with the trillions of wensdeh fans

WhatPub shows there's 3 pubs in the town centre and a further 3 barely a mile away in Minchinhampton. More than enough to be getting on with. If not, there's also Stroud about 4 miles away with loads of pubs. There's hardly gonna be 20 odd boozers in a town the size of Penistone

Trust me, I'm down here and 2 out of the 3 were shut. Minchinhampton has the Ragget Cot which I will be in in 10 minutes. The point I was making is that if people want a drink they would be better off stopping on the way and yes Stroud with its Wethies is probably the best option. Our fans are angry when they've had a drink so God knows what they'll be like if they can't get one:rolleyes:

Fair enough, useful to know in advance if they're likely to be shut I suppose (although you'd hope they'd be open on a match day for the sake of revenue)

I think I'll spend the early afternoon at the Stroud brewery on the river a few miles out of town

Gloucester isn’t that far away either and there’s plenty of drinking establishments there. I don’t imagine the local constabulary will be all that pleased to see a couple of hundred northerners shouting the odds though, so tread carefully!

Nailsworth is definitely not geared up for big crowd football matches. If you want a nice place for a sunny afternoon visit then the whole Stroud valley is stunning. I really hope there’s no trouble. Just go to the New Lawn and enjoy the match. No need for any stupid “going down” chants if we win. They don’t deserve that.

Nice of you to say so, Cowboy :).

It still feels like home to me as I lived in Gloucester for over 20 years but have been away from the area since 2008. They were mostly good times there and I never really thought I would leave, but the RAF sent me to the newly formed Air Command at High Wycombe when RAF Innsworth closed down, so that severed my ties. I used to watch Gloucester City and Cheltenham Town often when they were both Southern League and I used to think how marvellous it would be to see Barnsley play there one day. I never thought they would - not in a million years.

Yet, incredibly, we found ourselves at Third Division level with newly promoted Cheltenham in Season 02/03 and I travelled with the small band of "Gloucester Reds" (there were three of us!) to Whaddon Road on 18 Feb 03 to see my dream come true and we comfortably beat them 3-1. I'd already seen them at Oakwell for our first home game of that season and, naturally, I went up on a Cheltenham supporters bus. It wasn't a great season and we finished 19th, the only real good bit being Bruce Dyer's 18 goals. For those that remember this was the season of Paul Gibbs, Kevin Betsy and Gary Jones. What heroes we had then!!o_O

I envy those making the trek to Nailsworth on Saturday. I'll have to content myself with iFollow coverage. I expect us to win, but I really hope our fans do the club proud. We can but hope, I suppose.

Excellent post and fully agree. If we get the win on Saturday then by all means applaud and congratulate our own team after the final whistle but have the respect and decency not to take the piss out of FGR. They've obviously had a very difficult season at this level and there's no need to rub their faces in it.
