Watching the work fairly regularly, I'd say your first thoughts were right. They've still the Dodworth Road side pylon to complete and all the pathways to build.
So, the Poggy 'Freedom' Bridge is due to be delivered in two sections on Tuesday (11th April). It's going to be hoisted into place overnight Sat 22nd/Sun 23rd. I'd say there'll be a good bit of work to be done after in terms of finishing off the pathways etc, afterwards. So we'll not get the bunting out just yet!
Bridge now in-situ ready to be hoisted into place. Will be impressive when finished -- like the green colour! Work already started on seeding the bankings but quite a bit of work to be done on the Horizon side of the bridge before completion. In fact the whole area - including gyratory and Park look good.
Can’t find programme of work for Market Gate, curious to when the bridge sections will be lifted ? I’d guess Saturday night into Sunday one week to avoid train disruption. They need to knock about as it looks like that needs to happen before the up and down bits are built
I agree - some fine new buildings and structures in Barnsley - Glassworks, Colleges etc. Also lots of older Victorian houses/offices in good order.
Barnsley College is a particularly fine building on Shambles Street. Better than the monstrosities it replaced, and the brickwork, which is sympatico with that at the back of the Town Hall is a very fine feature. Much care taken there.
The programme of works for Market Gate is on the council planning portal: https://wwwapplications.barnsley.go...YJVELZ2UGXALHEK5K?ApplicationNumber=2023/0031
No surprise there. They've missed every scheduled event throughout the scheme. I hear Santa has been booked to open it.
Anyone got any photos of the bridge at Pogmoor? Not often I go up that way anymore. Just can't picture where they're going to put the bridge
The contractors tell us they will be fully off site at the northern (Poggy Rec) side by next Thursday (18th). I think there may be more work to be done on the Penny Pie side though.
There’s a picture of it in this article: https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/25239/new-bridge-installed
