…starting to really rile me up, it’s started in the Premier league and now it’s filtering down the leagues. There was a situation late on in the 2nd half where we were near there box and the Lincoln lad went down, you could clearly see there was nothing wrong with him either; he just wanted to eat up more time. Refs are put in a position where they can’t wait either as they’ve got to stop the game but it’s now turned into more snide time wasting.
Totally agree. As the Ref has to stop for head injuries, and rightly so, it is becoming the biggest con out there.
We were building up a real head of steam at that stage. Blatant tactic to disrupt any momentum. I don't fault them for doing it. My issue, as ever on this, is with the officials. There should have been at least 15 minutes time added on at the end with the number of stoppages, subs and blatant timewasting. I'm not saying that because I feel we'd have scored, because I don't. It was one of those evenings. But - and I say this as a general rule, so for and against us (as we waste time ourselves in games) - every time the ball isn't in play, there should be time added. But they don't, do they? They just give between four and six minutes regardless. There's definitely something wrong though, when one team can be attacking the other's box and the ref blows up because one of their - unchallenged - players drops to the floor. If that's the rule now, then the next time we have a team running through on goal, our keeper should collapse holding his head. I ******* detest officials. They're the worst thing in football. And football has Sheffield Wednesday in it.
Exactly, just throw yourself to the floor and the game’s got to stop to asses the supposed head injury. The worst thing is though the managers will be telling the players to do it, it’s now turned into another act of time wasting. It’ll be the same on Saturday, if they get an early goal or it’s stalemate late on everyone will be dropping like flies. It stinks tbh….
I'd love to know how long Andersen was down for in the first half of the last home game because the ref only added a few minutes on and there were a few other injuries and stoppages as well as having warned their keeper for time wasting in the 6th minute.
Refs are useless. Why halfway through the first half did he allow both sets of players to go have a drink by their dugouts? I felt cold stood watching in the 25 degrees heat it must have been.
I’ve been on record many times with my views on this. I think it needs stamping out. But let’s be absolutely right here, when it comes to time-wasting, we’re as bad as anyone. We really are in no position to be criticising others for doing it.
They should be made to sit out 5 mins of the game as precaution. Might cut down the fake injuries and yeah it’s a bit **** on those teams that might have a genuine one but they would have just subbed them back in the day anyway.
I hit my head on my friends cupboard picking the dogs up yesterday. I didn't go down. Blood was everywhere though.
The thing is, because their physio didn’t come on the pitch, their player was allowed to stay on the pitch for the re-start. Stupid ruling, if the ref stops the game for a head injury, the player should be made to leave the pitch
I did a 6 mile walk with the dogs. Then had a takeaway & a few beers. The referee only added 5 minutes.
If a game stopped at the next break in play, would that make much difference to a head injury in terms of treatment? Would stop players going down so readily.
The only way I see this being managed is to stop the clock at every stoppage and restart that clock once play resumes, this way they will actually play 45 minutes each half, even if it takes 55 minutes or more to complete: the fourth official could certainly manage this, and if not, then get a fifth official to do this. Last nights feigning of a head injury should have resulted in a card for the cheating two hat as it was obvious that he was not injured, especially as the referee called him over. It was blatant cheating. It is going to be very difficult for referees to ignore head injuries, or alleged head injuries, but something needs to be done.
I suppose if a player died on the pitch from a head injury that the ref didn’t blow up for immediately there would be uproar. It’s disgusting really when you think about it that players are exploiting a rule that is purely there to protect their safety.
