Good savings, especially when you've forgotten to take young un to see Avatar and it had gone off.

Took grandkids to see SuperMario at Imax last week. Brilliant theatre with comfy reclining seats. However, there were only 11 of us in there so it won't survive unless local people support it. It's a brilliant venue with cheap parking and numerous eateries nearby so don't get why people still go to Meadowhall to watch a film.

We always went to the Cineworld at Centertainment and would have started going to the new one in town but for some strange reason Cineworld don't do Dolby Atmos, would have thought so with this one being a new build. We've started going to the Odeon Luxe up at Thorpe Park, Leeds

Some people i know in Wombwell all went to Meadowhall to watch John Wick the other week, when i asked why dont you go to Barnsley to the new cinema, their response was simple.

    Does Barnsley have a cinema?
They didnt know about the old one they also didnt know about the new one.
I showed them it and they responded well there is nothing to do after like arcades or to get some food, showed them that as well and they didnt believe me, said i had made it all up.

It all comes from because their parents never went to tarn historically and always went to Deedars or Meadowhell because Barnsley was too rough!!! (says them coming from Wombwell haha)

‘Everything everywhere all at once’ is totally unfathomable to the point of being offensive, how it won all those Oscars is beyond belief

Not sure what Dolby Atmos is but the sound quality.in the Imax and 4D theatres is brilliant. The 4D experience is like going to Universal studios with its movement and spray at the correct time. Not sure if Sheffield has that.

Parking is free for 5 hours if you’re using the cinema. Just take your Glassworks Car Park ticket into Cineworld and they validate it for you.

You have to remember that for the ‘bigger’ film releases they’re showing multiple screenings each day in numerous formats. With the choice of 4DX, IMAX, Screen X, or regular screenings, customers will be dispersed across those various screenings. It’s not like Parkway where you might get 1 or 2 screenings in the same theatre.

IMAX and 4DX is expensive so some families may prefer a regular screening.

I’ve watched in 4DX on my last two visits. Avatar was full - not a single spare seat. The other (can’t remember the film) was the middle of the month on a Tuesday night and was the second of 3 showings of the same film in 4DX in one day. There were about 30 people in there. 30 people at £18 each is a decent return. Pretty much everyone in there had drinks and snacks too, plus the extra cost for the 3D glasses. The screenings don’t need to be packed for them to make a profit - especially if they’re not paying much in rent!

The easiest explanation is 3D sound from all around which includes speakers at ceiling level. I have it at home but do go to the cinema if it's something i really like

Cineworld have it, but only in their Superscreen format - not many of their theatres have Superscreen.

The neighbour went to the one in town when it opened and he said it was poor when you are used to it, he has it at home too

I go to the new cinema 2-3 times per week. Admittedly, I tend to go during the day, but it’s very rare that I have been to a screening that has more than 10 people in the theatre and quite often I am the only one.

With regards to comfort and facilities, it’s the best cinema I have ever been to, and I lived in London for a long time and went to all the cinemas in central London. Every seat has head and neck support, which is brilliant for me, as I had spinal cord surgery in my neck 20 years ago and find it difficult and painful sitting for long periods without that support. Every screen has tiered seating, so you’re guaranteed a good view. The seats all have drink holders and are all reclining, but there is plenty of leg room, so you are not affected by the person in front of you reclining (unlike on planes, where it’s a sodding nightmare!).

There are 12 screens, so there’s always a good choice of films. The IMAX is amazing, particularly with a 3D showing. Avatar was stunning, although the first one was better than the second. Despite it having 12 screens, all of the screens are a good size. When I took my lad to London for the weekend (when we won at Fulham, just before the lockdown) I told him I’d take him to one of the massive cinemas in Leicester Square. Unfortunately it has all changed since I lived there. There are less cinemas for starters, but it used to be that pretty much each cinema had a different main film. The theatres were massive. Nowadays, however, they are all multi screen, but the sites aren’t big enough for multiscreens, so the screening we went to had no more than 30 seats in it and the screen was not much bigger than our scoreboard. It really was bizarre.

Back to Barnsley, the ScreenX is worth experiencing. This is where you have screens down the side of you as well as in front. Sometimes the picture is just stretched a bit, to accommodate this, but often now the picture down the sides has been specifically shot for the presentation, so you aren’t missing anything from the main picture. Top Gun was pretty impressive on ScreenX, but it’s not a format that I’m particularly bothered about.

4DX is the one where you are thrown about in your seat and where you’ll have wind and rain chucked at you. I took my son to see Star Wars episode 9 (can’t remember its name) in 4DX in Sheffield a few years ago. Big mistake. When it says not to use it if you have neck or back conditions it means it! As well as getting thrown about, the chair punches you during fight sequences (to be more precise, bits of the chair poke out and jab you in the back. I had to have the back of a couple of vertebrae removed during my surgery, so any blow to the back of my neck is pretty much directly onto my spinal cord. I received such a blow in the first 5 minutes, sending an incredible amount of pain shooting to my head and all 4 limbs, similar to an electric shock. I spent the rest of the film in absolute agony, but my son was laughing his head off and really enjoying it, so I put up with it. Not my best idea, but I didn’t want to disappoint him. It took a couple of weeks to recover from that battering. But if you have young kids and don’t have a back or neck problem, take them to this screen, as they will love it.

I’m going along there this afternoon, to see Renfield. I expect there to be around 4 or 5 people there at most. Hopefullly the Barnsley public will start using it, because we have one of the most impressive attractions in the town centre that we have ever had. It would be a shame if it were to close.

    They’re an additional £1.25 when purchasing a 4DX ticket.

Barnsley doesn’t have a Superscreen. I guess if it’s something you’re used to (and overly bothered about) then you probably will notice a difference.

Yeh sorry i meant he went to the cinema in town, i know it's not got the Superscreen, we'd go if it had it. If you don't ever hear it then you don't know the difference but once you have you then notice when it's not there

Load of ballax they didn't know about the new one, unless they aren't on any social media at all - it's hard not to escape news these days.
