Anyone else been burgled / robbed?

Scumbags.

Was burgled back on the 80s.

You just feel dirty that someone else has been into your personal and so called safe space.

 

Take care mate. Don’t let the scrotes get in your head. They aren’t worth a second of your time.

 

I hate the thieving filth with all my being and could happily sit with a cuppa and a biscuit and watch them bleed out.

 

I could reply to a few posts, but don’t don’t want to drag this on and on like some kind of sympathy exercise. But this post deserves a response because it’s what others told me today, which does hit home. Who knows what could have happened had I heard them.

It’s just a very new feeling, a unique event that I’ve tried all day to come to terms with. I keep picturing them in my conservatory, on my drive, as we slept. It’s sickening.

Had absolutely no support from the police other than a brief call out and crime number. We’ve been robbed and it’s going to cost us more money to increase security and sort out the insurance etc.

What a world.

 

A colleague was burgled back end of last year. Disturbed them and took a run at one of them. Got a depressed skull fracture on the end of a hammer for his troubles. They've stolen some metal off you. Nobody was hurt and with time you'll process this and normality will return. It's **** but it happens.

I haven't been done over for a few years now but it's happened to me a couple of times. First time was the worst because I didn't know how to deal with it. And because they stole everything - my electrical obviously but also my clothes, toiletries, duvet, pillows, food, boiler, radiators, records, CDs, video tapes, the lot! Went to the cinema and when I got home I had a bare mattress and the clothes on my back.

 

The physical confrontation that you didn't have to face is a blessing. It's a horrible thing to go through anyway, and I feel for you. Our house in Ardsley got burgled when we were on a family holiday in Dorset. Had to cut the holiday short and travel home (i was about 7 or 8). My mum also dragged a lad and his mate out of our Rover Metro (lol) when they were hotwiring it on another occasion.

The second burglary in Darfield was the worst. Dad picked me up from school early, I was around 12, and we had to call in at home before going to doctors. As we parked up, my dad told me to wait in the car, which was a bit odd but I didn't question it. Turns out my dad had spotted two scumbags in our dining room as he rounded the corner. They'd broken in through the kitchen window in broad daylight. My dad jumped on one of them and the other hit him and they ran off. All I saw from the car (totally oblivious at this point) was two lads sprinting up our drive and passing me in the car. I still obsessively check things are locked to this day (20+ years later), and for a long time I formed a habit of looking over my shoulder down the street, convinced someone was following me. I would also hear things in the night. I talked to my dad about it recently, and he said the night after it happened he thought he heard something in the night and he jumped the stairs from top to bottom in anger!

All they took were some of my old Stingray VHSs and nondescript items, but they don't know the damage they do, and at the time I'm sure they don't care. We got a burglar alarm after that and didn't have any issues, but it definitely scarred us in that house.

 

That last bit about your dad taking the stairs in one jump reminded me of my reaction in my account above. In fact I had looked out of the bedroom window moments before and seen a strange car at the top of our drive. It was when they reversed down towards our house that I knew something was not right. One of them jumped out of the car with a tool in his hand and a couple of seconds later I heard what I guessed was our door splintering. I flew into a rage and was at the bottom of the stairs in no time shouting all the time.

As I said above goodness knows what would have happened if they’d challenged me but they were obviously cowards who couldn’t wait to get away. I got their registration number and the colour and make but it turned out to be a stolen car.

None of us really know what we are capable of in situations like that but I fully understand how some people are driven to murder when the rage kicks in.

 

Shocking that they came back mate, and as you say who knows what would have happened. It's a horrible violation of your personal space and sense of security. It takes some time to get over the shock for sure.

 

You haven't failed anyone.

Bad people do bad things and the victims of those crimes (Yes, we're allowed to call ourselves victims) are not at fault in any way. Being a victim doesn't mean we take it to heart, it just means we were wronged.

If I was walking home and a bunch of nob heads jumped me (as has happened on a few occasions) you wouldn't be blaming me for getting beaten up, you'd be blaming them. You're not to blame for someone robbing your stuff.

I've experienced similar, not our just our cars, our stuff that was in the house. They broke in, rifled through the house and took everything that was of value. I've experienced this multiple times. And had my car nicked multiple times.

How did I get through this? I wasn't the person in the wrong. So I let it go. You're not the person in the wrong. So let it go.

I appreciate that can be easier said than done, but honestly, just let it go.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been a victim of crime, I simply don't remember, because on each occasion I did nothing wrong. It's just a pain in the arse, but so is calling your utility provider, and I don't remember those occasions either. Just let it go.

 

The police told me it was not uncommon. They wait for you to replace the lost items then come back for the new stuff because some people don’t up their security

 

Similar thing happened to a mate of mine Eldwick a couple of years ago. They broke in through his conservatory, two cars stolen, one found parked up two days later. Mate didn't think to change the car locks and a week later the scumbags came back and pinched it again.
His house and drive are much more secure now.

 

Yeh I've heard that too. Horrible. We were advised to get burglar alarm immediately, and change the kitchen window that they'd easily prised open to a much smaller one.

 

I've been working really long hours for the past couple of years, and my flat is pretty much just a glorified storage area that I sometimes sleep in.

I once had a friend staying and went to set up a TV programme to watch when I realised that my PS4 had been nicked. No idea when they did it because I was around so rarely, but just knew it had been within the past couple of weeks or so. I vividly remember my overriding reaction just being shame that the flat had probably been a mess when they got in. I couldn't even manage anger - it was such a horrible, horrible feeling.

 

Parents home got burgled in the 80s. I was staying there at the time but none of us heard a thing. Only thing they nicked was the TV set and that was a rental anyway. Worst thing was we had a very good idea who'd done it and they lived on our street in Elsecar. Unemployed scrote doing drugs so decided against confrontation as they'd only got the TV but parents moved to an old people's bungalow not too long after to feel safer

 

There’s a more sickening trend to these burglaries but I’ll tell you anyway. Hashtag the cars reg on tiktok or the hashtag #active followed by your village or city location and you’ll probably find a video of the lads who’ve stolen it, bragging what they’ve done and driving it around like nutters.

It’s the current thing to do, Infact if anyone from Barnsley has been robbed, just hashtag activebarnsley or active01226 and you’ll see gangs of lads filming breaking into property, how they did it etc

there’s been numerous break ins in grimethorpe and they’ve all found their cars and bikes on their in these videos, the final clip they show is them setting the bikes on fire.

It’s only possessions and pride.

We got done 20 years ago when in Leeds. High end BMW. I was all i’d kill them if i caught them. Following week same people ran over and killed a guy trying to stop them taking his car.

 

In fairness, it seems like pot luck.

I was burgled about 18 months ago. Mrs' car nicked. Called the police at 9.30, they were at our house by 10.30, forensics people there by 11.30, then received a call at 11.45 saying they'd found the car completely intact and undamaged.

They never found who did it, but we didn't have cctv and the culprits didn't leave any trace so how are they meant to find them.

I understand that I'm probably in a minority in terms of a positive experience with the police, but I thought I'd share for a bit of balance. On that occasion, I couldn't fault them.

Then, my workplace was burgled about 9 months ago. I work with vulnerable people, but thankfully the thieves didn't make it past reception. The police never attended site, despite asking us to corden off certain areas (including my office) and leave them untouched until they arrived. A suspect had been identified, and the stolen items recovered, and yet when they did arrive, 6 weeks later, all they said was that they were sure who'd done it, but without evidence they couldn't do anything about it. All this despite not taking any prints, asking for any Cctv footage or speaking to anyone in the neighboring flats.

So swings and roundabouts.

 

You've let nobody down mate. There's literally nothing else you could have done, scum will be scum. If anything, it's a blessing that you didn't hear them and that none of you have been physically harmed.

I was burgled a little while ago, and in all honesty, for the first few weeks, I felt very uneasy when laid in bed at night. I was listening out for every little sound. You don't realise some of the noises your house makes until something like this happens. It will take some time, but I'm sure you'll feel more at ease eventually.

I'm glad to hear you're all safe mate, as that's the main thing.

 

Happened to us a few years ago Andy, so I know what you're going through, it's sh*t. You haven't let anyone down though, and you haven't failed. You'll get through it, but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth that never quite goes away.

 

We all get blaize about security, not setting the alarm ,leaving keys on display.
This post as made a lot of people realise.
Be alert ⚠️ and ďont find yourself in this situation.
I was robbed of my motorhome off the drive ,they didn't get into the house.
There was stuff in there that couldn't be replaced, tools that belonged to mi late dad etc.
All I got was a crime number .
On reflection the insurance was spot on and paid out in 4 weeks.
I went looking for it and like yourself would tackle anyone.
There's no consolation to make you feel any better.
However you have given a lot of folk a kick up the arse with this post.
Hope you get stuff sorted , including your own head.
You have not let anyone down, it's society that's done that.
