Great to see them back in the football league I would put money on them now winning league 2 next season.
The owners will continue to invest. They'll be clear favourites for the league two title next season. Generally the teams coming up from the National League tend to carry that momentum and do well the following season.
I think most people probably would, mate. No doubt they'll continue to be the Manchester City of the lower leagues!
Not great at all for me. Backed by mega money from Disney and the media will be all over them like a rash. Certain to walk league 2 next season but nothing to like at all from where I’m looking.
I’d like Jon Bon Jovi to take us over so he could sing living on prayer at the start of matches and keep the faith as we leave.
It’s great what they have done fra Wrexham FC and the town’s point of view, and no doubt they are passionate about it. However it does seem like a rich man’s experiment/ plaything. Thing is the media will be ramming it down our throats for months like it’s some miracle, while they have simply pumped millions in and signed players capable of playing a couple of leagues higher and surprise surprise they overpower cash strapped clubs. Feel really sorry for County though!
I often wonder this about City. Their whole underdog identity has gone. They now get tourist fans, half the crowd appears to be from outside of Manchester. It's the opposite of what they were, and yet they have become a phenomenal tour de force, with silverware galore. I can't help thinking a part of their die-hard fans yearn for those underdog, britpop years when they had the little Georgian Georgi Kinkladze, and Shaun Goater, and they were up against it fighting their way upwards out of division two. If we were suddenly given the riches they have, and shot to the top of English football, sure we would be loving it on one level, but our identity, and the identity of the town - the very fabric of what we are, passed on from generation to generation, would go with it. Interesting thing to think about. Would you sell your soul for a bit of dirty money, an unbeatable team, and a paid-for advantage over the whole of English football?
Can fully understand Wrexham fans being thrilled at what’s happening, but don’t understand why any other fans outside there would be enjoying it. Just another club fuelled by obscene amounts of money, what’s to like? As for your question about if it were us then no, I’ve supported us for 50 years as underdogs and I’m quite content for it to stay that way.
Good luck to em. Decent fanbase. Owners who have taken them to their hearts. Invested in the club and the community. What's not to like. Football is a business whether we like it or not. These 2 guys have created a business and turned the club round in an amazing way. They appear genuine. And have brought back life into the place. I'd struggle to see any average club/town turn that down
Genuinely pleased for the fans and the town, they've been in the doldrums of Non League football for a long time so they're due their time in the limelight, good luck to them. As for the owners, enjoyed series 1 of the documentary almost as much as the Arteta's meltdown on the Prime documentary, if that's a business model/revenue generator that works then fair dos.
Personally, really hope they go back down, not that will happen. Not really sure how people who support a club that has constantly battled against financial adversity from bigger clubs can enjoy a team being bankrolled by Hollywood millionaires, just because they spent years in Non-League for deservedly being crap. Imagine outspending 35 football league teams and claiming at as some underdog story. If you want a nice story from today go look at Leyton Orient.
Attendances tell you they can. And why not. Doubled this year after having their best last season.for quite a while.i don't get all this negativity towards em. Should wigan and blackburn fans have felt the same after having money bags thrown at em. Especially wigan. And to an extent Wimbledon. Small fish in a big pond. Love it.
Well said. It also doesn't look right them getting interviewed at every game they go to and today being on the actual pitch kissing the trophy. They are owners. The playing area is for staff and coaches. If we get promoted I wouldn't expect our owners to get on the pitch, nor would they.
Attendances doubled because they had a team that cost nearly double any other team in the league. If over the summer someone bought us and bought a team that cost more than Aston Villa’s I’m pretty sure there’d be more than a few folk come out of the woodwork. It’s not hard to fill 3 side of a ground when you’ve got the advertising budget of Hollywood’s most marketable star. I never said their fans should feel anything. They’ve won the league with a record amount of points and have ended a 15 year spell away from their “natural level”. I’m pretty sure they won’t give a toss what anyone else thinks. But we as a club have battled against richer and more attractive clubs our entire history and it’s what makes us who we are, for better or for worse. Wrexham’s title success isn’t an underdog story. It’s a team bankrolled by two massively rich individuals and the biggest social media company in the world there or there abouts. It’s nothing to be celebrated by us, it’s another indictment at the sad state of modern football.
