Are we expecting action from SYP or the EFL for the bottles thrown onto the pitch this evening? The usual tannoy announcement about the racist/sexist/homophobic chanting was echoed too, was it the Leeds chant again?
They mention CCTV but we never hear about anyone being named and shamed with a ban. The guy who stole the matchball surely he's been dealt with at the very least.
The referee was terrible and certainly inflamed the situation but throwing bottles and stealing match balls does not cover us in glory.
The guy who threw the first bottle seemed to celebrate when the announcement about it was made. Don't think any action was ever taken. Hopefully he gets the ban he deserves. The second bottle was (I think) thrown by one of the little kids that regularly stand at the wall behind the goal. Tough learning curve to get banned at that age but they should know better. The guys stealing the ball were just pathetic.
Someone offering the ref a bottle as he seemed to have lost his after Hirst's 'fingers in the face' challenge?
The same people who throw bottles onto the pitch will be the first to complain when there are mandatory bag searches before you are allowed into the ground...
I've seen players unable to take corners because of being pelted with rubbish. I know it's stupid but you can bet your life we'll be jumped on for this. The goalie could have just lobbed the bottle of pop into the goal. The empty plastic bottle didn't even reach the goal area so could have been ignored. Is it any worse than chucking a bog roll.on. I get that it shouldn't be done but surely the club can't be at fault for this.. Maybe the."missile" announcement will suffice. When the Russians start firing missiles at us, I hope they're bottles of pop.
I notice you cut out the rest of my post saying 'but the actions do not cover us in glory' which in doing so has taken the first part out of context. Deary me. You are correct nevertheless.
I apologise if you feel I have taken it out of context, but for me the referees performance is completely irrelevant, and doesn't warrant any place in this thread.
Yeah that's fair enough and i agree, objects getting thrown onto the pitch is where the line should be drawn and hopefully the culprits get punished severely.
Agree, it's a bit stupid isn't it. At Burton chips were being thrown at their goalkeeper, at FGR a pie or pasty was thrown at one of their players taking a corner. I wonder if those people thought it was amusing, I saw it as stupid and embarrassing for the club. The bottle incident last night was an escalation. Surely people should be able to control their emotions and actions better than that, irrespective of the frustration I think we all felt. I think the club have to jump on this one tbh to a) stop similar incidents in the future and b) demonstrate to the football authorities we're taking action, which I think is why there's a tannoy announcement after that one chant is sung.
It may not be the club's fault, but it's the club's responsibility. No amount of tannoy announcements, infographics, statements or paid fines will ever be enough - they need to work in partnership with police to stamp out the hate, the discriminatory chanting, the bottle lobbing, the pitch invasions, the drug use and the violence. They need to do what they say they stand for. And of course fans need to take responsibility too. How many incidents does one club need?
Full ban for the bottle thrower is where we should be..he can pay for his actions..don't want to give SYP & The EFL any reason to have a go at us where we all suffer for this idiots stupidity...Noticed the guy with the ball was being filmed so likely ban for him and his mate..hope the club judge the young un was influenced by the grown ups..
In fairness the keeper was ready to play on and hadn't noticed the bottle, it was the ref that made him stop and pointed out the bottle.
Whilst it’s not an excuse there’s a reason people start to lose their cool and last night was one of the worst one sided set of decisions I’ve seen for a while and we have had some humdingers on that front already this season. I don’t condone it one little bit but I can understand people getting that frustrated but once again I don’t think it’s right to throw things on the pitch.
