Interesting that in the pre-match interview with Michael Duff the RS interviewer asked him about whether he thought Mads had been too aggressive recently. The response was that he tries to dominate his opponent and if you take that away then maybe he's not the same player but that he's still learning and developing. And then last night he tried to get in front of Hirst, got wrong side and the result was their second goal. Similar situation to Bolton weeks ago when he got wrong side of Charles and got himself sent off. Mads - I love your passion and commitment. But just temper it a bit and be willing to hold your man up rather than trying to win it every time!
TBF the Bolton player got in front of him because he pulled him back turning him slightly in the process. Last night I thought he’d been fouled, but looking at the replays, he got the wrong side and wasn’t able to muscle his way back.
Our players make mistakes WT. They are all far from the finished article. If they were better than they are, then they wouldn't be at Oakwell. Not saying you.. but all of us should give em a little slack. It's been a great enjoyable season. As fans, we only ever have two choices.. we support or we don't. If Mads or one or two others get better we won't see it, cos they'll be gone
He did the same last night as he did against Bolton. Worried too much about out muscling the striker, rather than defending the ball.
Not sure if you think that because I've criticised him for this I don't support? If so, that's certainly not true. I very, very rarely voice any dissatisfaction at the ground as imo it's counter-productive. Mads' development has been spectacular since he joined us. Thinking back to the mistakes he made in his first season, he's learned and improved hugely and is a very good player and captain. I've always loved players who obviously play with passion and commitment for Barnsley FC and Mads certainly does. Nevertheless, I think his decision making about when to go and win and when to jockey and hold up needs to improve - for the benefit of the team and his future career. He'll inevitably move on to a bigger club at some point but might not fulfil his potential if he continues to make this sort of mistake imo. And this is a discussion forum about the club, the team and players isn't it?
Yes' thats the one critcism i have of Mads' he often gets too close to his man then gets turned and done for pace' summat to work on.
Think Mads mistake is being somewhat over criticised really they actually got back and defended the first attempt it justo
Whilst we play such a high line, hes always going to try win that first ball, because they were rapid, as proven yesterday. Nothing at all to criticise mads on for me, just a player making a rare mistake
For me, it's a small but significant mistake he repeats, is to grab the player by the arm/shirt and slowly drag them to the floor if he isn't going to outmuscle or get ahead of the player. He's given away many a free-kick in this manner - sometimes in the danger zone - and usually gets booked. It just feels unnecessary and something that can easily be rectified. Every time he does it I instinctively groan to myself. Having said that, he has become an outstanding centre-half and is a smashing lad
But that is due to his physique as well though. The striker is always backing into him, elbowing him, dragging his shirt, getting stood on, just the size of mads makes it look one sided. The poor lad was bleeding last week from it and nothing happened!
Yes good point. I think he has developed a tendency to shirt pull and drag the player down and I don't think it's always necessary, but just my thoughts.
I dont disagree with that bud. It will always happen, what I do think is he does it for too long. He needs to learn when to stop doing it to not give that foul away
Great servant for us and would love him to sign a new contract more than anyone else and end up like the foreign Rimmo staying for decades to come doing all sorts of jobs. That second goal last night though he really messed up.
Yeh, you're spot on mate. It's the way he does it rather than just not doing it at all, which is unrealistic.
