I hope we rest Jordan Williams, Kitching, Kane & Norwood next week. Anderson (injured anyway) may as well sit it out if not 100%, and give I’d Collins a game next week as well! Then pick the best 11 and get back at being 100% miles an hour again at Bolton with the fast pressing game! 3 cup finals with a weeks rest allowing our high energy game each week!
Today was the day for resting players. Next week we need to field the strongest team we can without risking any minor niggles.
Where have we heard this injury with Mads? I've only heard he was rested, not seen anything official. Is he actually injured?
Thanks mate. Commentators just said rested. Hopefully it's just the $hits like Connell Better them getting it now than in the playoffs!
imagine getting someone injured or suspended though from a game that means nothing! Get minutes into players who might be needed, but keep the best 11 fresh!
Just rest 2 or 3 like we did last saturday , we owe it to the teams still competing for the play offs to put out a strong side against Peterboro & of course we could be in trouble with the league if we put out a really weak side , I also think injuries should not come into it , they happen on the training ground as well as match day , Luke Thomas being the prime example but the main reason we should put out a strong side is to win the match & go into the play offs with form & confidence .
If Andersen was fit I’d rest Kitching; as it seems not I’d give Kane and Williams a rest. Another game for Cundy can’t hurt in case he’s needed, and a rest for Williams and Kane is to me a sensible thing to do. The forwards are rotated anyway, though I might consider getting Oli Shaw some minutes just in case; Cadden has just had three games off so he should be fine. Connell and Phillips have had a rest so could come back if fit. I’d not complain for a second if he rested more than those though. We have a duty to the league but we also have a duty to ourselves. Having more than the first eleven sharp with recent competitive first team matches under their belts is the sensible thing to do. I’d also be making at least four substitutions and giving them all at least twenty minutes. Saving one in case of injury as we wouldn’t want more strains from covering for ten men if someone had to go off. Peterborough are a decent outfit and will be desperate for the win. Derby are at Wednesday - who won’t want to just lie down as they’d be giving initiative to the team they’re likely to be playing in the playoffs given Bolton are at Bristol Rovers who having nothing on the game at all. Derby certainly aren’t guaranteed a win, even though I suspect Wednesday will just go through the motions a bit too, so the posh will come out hungry. I just hope if it goes a bit wrong on Sunday that the fans don’t overreact in person at the ground like we saw on this forum on Saturday. The team and Duff have earned the right to shuffle the pack and keep legs and minds fresh for bigger days and have enough credit in the bank to expect the fans to support that if they choose to do it.
They could get injured in training. Playing a game is probably better preparation than doing nothing.
I agree. I would hate us risking players in a dead rubber and risk being weakened for the play offs. If it was me picking the team we wouldn't be seeing the likes of Andersen, Connell, Kitching or Cole at all this Sunday.
If 100% fit I would get Connell & Anderson straight back into the side, give Kane a rest & give Russell more game time, along with Benson. Give Cotter a start, his long throws will be a good weapon to have in the play offs & Williams will benefit from a rest, if Anderson is back give Kitching a rest & Cundy more game time, he will be needed against the long ball merchants Sheff Weds & Bolton if we play them & hanging onto leads. I think Watters should be starting with the idea that he starts in the playoffs if he performs. With the other 3 strikers rotated, so I’d go with Watters & Cole up top
I thought we've looked a little off the pace in recent weeks, and leggy against Ipswich and MK. The Ipswich game especially showed the difference in squad sizes. I don't think they have too much of a better team than we do, I think they caught us at the end of a very long season, where we've mostly used the same team. We didn't have the same vigor as the Wednesday or Plymouth games. So, I think we should definitely use the option to rotate wisely. With regards to 'weakening' ourselves for the opposition, I think the team is due for a refresh and rotate now anyway, so I don't think it would really drop our levels of performance, really.
I'd rest all our best players v Peterborough. I reckon if Peterborough make the Play-Offs we'll win them. Beating them in the final.
