Agreed. I think our squad is stronger since January, but come backs in a few of those games haven't happened. Most of those were when we had little to bring on off the bench. First half of the season we are bringing on the likes of Jalo, who wasn't even 18 at the time. I think we are a team that starts on the front foot, that said we don't have the options that Ipswich, Wednesday, Derby & Bolton have off the bench even so, even after getting in some low budget, but excellent signings. We have punched above our weight. I've no idea how well we will do in the playoffs, but I doubt anyone would criticise the Gaffer, Duff for a great season. It is what it is.
Plymouth seem to be the best at coming back when they need to, Bolton at Wembley being the exception.
We have absolutely nothing on the bench that offers us any hope of improving after subs are made. That's the problem. Despite a few goals I still think tedic offers no presence at all especially when he comes on. Watters may as well walk from the bench to the ponty end and sit down for all he does when he plays. Russell is a complete waste of a shirt. There's a reason he's spent best part of a year sat on his arse. Josh Martin. Stealing a wage. Josh Benson. Either has a good game or none existent. Asa sub he doesn't have the energy or drive to really do anything. Luke Thomas is like Benson. Has good games, has bad. I think he's better starting than coming on as sub personally. Larkeche. Doesn't really add owt. Then you're down to the likes of Shaw who I'm not even sure exists. I feel for duff. He's got a good team but an awful squad and he got us to within a few points of automatic promotion
Bench looks pretty weak to me. Luke Thomas gone back to having little or no impact on games. If he’s out of contract I wouldn’t be looking to renew.
But you'd hope on some occaisions to not need the bench, but have the starting 11 react better to going behind. Ipswich was the most extreme example. We concede, and find ourselves so poorly setup a minute later, that a hoof upfield catches us one on one. Against Burton and Exeter, our response was so bad that the coach felt compelled to make a quadruple change. Duff has said that the players are probably a bit too emotional when we concede, and just need to crack on with the game, as they would when it's nil nil.
Truered92 has noted this remark and will be holding you accountable the next time Luke Thomas scores a tap in.
Interesting. They should certainly care enough to not want to concede a goal, but be relaxed enough to know its part of the game, not care too much and like he says just get on with it.
It's a very boyish attitude. Like when you get a new exercise book at school and make an error. Rather than putting a line through the mistake. Compound it by tearing the page out making a mess of the binding in the process. Write it off and start again. In spite of a small error, easily rectified.
I think because we've no leadership on the pitch. Players go out with a role assigned to them, but, probably because of the youthfulness of the team, there's no-one to "step in" and drive things forward when the going gets tough i.e. we go behind. There's no-one like a Hourihan or a Mowatt who will step forward and try to change things. We have players who are technically skilfull but who don't have the ability to drive situations....
