Norwood. As an option from the bench if we go up. We can't afford to sign three Championship proven strikers and you don't score around 200 goals without knowing where the net is.
He's done something this season. He was playing really well before his leg break, and has been a good impact player off the bench. If it wasn't for the midfield picking itself in Kane, Phillips and Connell, he'd be starting. I think he definitely deserves a new contract, he's come on significantly since he first arrived, has been through a lot mentally (as is well documented) and I can see him improving even more.
We paid a million quid for him and he’s never really found his place. Again not one for offering out a contact on the off chance he offers us something. He’s been here for 4 years. How much more time does he need?
I agree. Keep him if we stay where we are. But if we get promoted get shut of them all because we will need a much better level of quality to stand a chance of staying up.
He was our best player up to him breaking his leg. He's the only player we've got who can beat a man and was MOTM at Hillsborough by a distance. One of the few players who could command a fee if we sold him.
I think he's a very different prospect to the one who arrived in 19/20. You make it sound like he hasn't done anything of note and it'd be a gamble to offer him a new contract. All new contract offers carry a certain amount of risk I guess, but I don't subscribe to this notion that we are just gambling on him offering us something if we do offer him one. Duff can see his capabilities, and he's looked great at times this season. And again, he's been very unfortunate with the leg break on top. I'd be offering him a new contract, absolutely. Opinions eh!
Ok let’s say we extended his deal. Who exactly is going to knock down the door for him? Again will trust duffs judgement but for me and on the whole there isn’t much to actually think he’s worth hanging on to.
By knock down the door do you mean which club is going to want to sign him? If so, I'm not interested in that. I want him to sign a new contract and bring success for the reds. If you mean something else, then i misunderstand.
Luke Thomas is still young (24) and improving. That improvement has been set back with injuries and circumstances. But he still has plenty of time. He's one of the quickest players at Oakwell, along with Jordan Williams. But with the ball at his feet, running at defenders, I think he has no peers. That allows him to impact a game. His end product / final ball is as ever somewhat lacking but if he did have that he'd be in the Premier. Game time and composure from experience will improve that aspect of his game. As a slight comparison, Conor Chaplin (26) is two years older than Thomas, and has only just become the player he now is. A few years ago when he was Thomas's age, he wasn't that good was he. He ran like a terrier but he wasn't exactly setting the league alight with his goals.
Thomas is a strange one. Definitely has the talent but lacks end product in terms of goals and assists. It’s a close call for me. Up to Duff…..
Norwood and Thomas if we're still in L1. I genuinely think there's a player in Thomas. He got a bad injury when he was looking like one of our best players. It takes a bit of time to come back from that. I don't think any of em are quite good enough for Championship though.
The Luke Thomas that scored at home to Fulham in 2019 was so full of confidence he was almost taking the pi5s in that game. I don’t know what’s gone on in his head since then but I’d like to believe Duff can get him back there. He should be more than a League One toiler.
The only thing for me is that after 4 years that we are still unsure weather we should retain him or not despite us paying big money for us at the time. Will trust Duff to decide.
