Congratulations to the Ladies on winning their division! Onwards and upwards. I was thinking of taking the grandkids to their last home game which is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday on the Academy pitch. But then I realised the men are playing at noon on the same day. Does anyone know if the ladies game is still going ahead as planned?
Thats Barnsley Women, a different team not affiliated with Barnsley FC any longer, as far as I am aware. Table | Division One North | The FA Women's National League (Tier 4) Barnsley FC Ladies are in Table | Southern | North East Regional Womens Football League (thefa.com) (Tier 6) They should be in Tier 5 next season, barring any promotion criteria thats not been fulfilled.
My daughter plays for them, Sundays match has been moved to a 16:00 kick off. They were hoping to be playing on Oakwell, but doubt they'll be allowed now.
Thanks for this, I'll definitely go back and support them. I'm interested to see what plans JAQ has for them, she was making some interesting comments a few months ago..
Apparently she's been in talks with some of the more established local teams about a ground share when they can't play at Oakwell.
They have had a very good season and should have been allowed to play on the main pitch. We could have allowed people to leave after the mens game, have in the car park areas some food and drink stalls whilst people enjoy the hot weather we are getting today, and then allow people back inside for 4 pm with their Posh ticket.
That sounds great, I'd definitely take my grandkids to see them play somewhere like the Brig, the Rec or Penny Church. Better still on Oakwell whenever possible. Presume there are also plans to develop the team and take it up the pyramid.
Agree, they could have made their big announcement a week or two ago then made today a double header by way of a scene setter. Might even have shifted a few more Early Birds.
Poor excuse when there is nearly two weeks for the pitch to recover and it's May. It's not like we are playing Wednesday night in a very wet winter.
I guess there must be a reason why they want to protect it so there must be some underlying issue we aren’t aware of cos I don’t think we would take this decision just to spite the ladies team. The only other possible explanation could perhaps be the grounds staffs working hours. Would imagine they must have started pretty early today and then would have to wait till nearly 7pm to start doing the after the game pitch work etc.
