Unfortunately loyalty in football comes before a fall. Look no further than Kane at Spurs. They've built team around him for three or four years with little thought for when the Kane and Son partnership would break up. In hindsight they might have been better taking the money off Man City for Kane and building the squad with it like they did when they sold Bale. Now they're going to get a cut price £100.million and have to spend it towards a new spine because they won't attract a name like Haaland or Kane without rebuilding the squad. Especially in Europa conference league.
My point wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be. Leeds have stood still waiting on Bamford's fitness or to come good when they should have moved on with or without him. The same with Spurs and their over reliance on Kane. The good sides break and freshen things up at the right time. Man Utd. Hughes and Cantona. Then Cole, Yorke. All the time Brian McLaren then Solskjaer waiting in the wings. Sheringham as a stop gap for Van Nistelrooy. He was jettisoned for Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez. Then finally Van Persie. You have to evolve. Leeds haven't. When they were beating teams under Bielsa they should have kicked on then. I feel a bit for Forest they look like they've done a Fulham spent all that money trying to kick on but it looks like it'll be another season back in Championship before they regroup and come back knowing what's required next time.
Aye I agree mate. When they sold Bale though they absolutely pi$$ed that money up the wall on players, didn't do their homework properly. Without a proper manager at the minute, and with the DoF suspended, god knows what will happen. Spurs would never have attracted Kane if he wasn't an academy player, no way would he or a player like Haaland etc go to Spurs over City/man utd/chelsea & probably Arsenal & Newcastle now. Kane only has 1 year left doesn't he? I reckon they might get 70/80, not even 100 now. It's nice to see Son come into a bit more form because he's a great talent and seems a genuinely brilliant bloke. I thought Romero was a great signing, and he is a great player, but he's so rash & loses his head so often it's embarrassing to watch. But players like Perisic, Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Royal, Lenglet etc should never have been brought into the club or let go ages ago. Imagine having the best duo up top together for years and winning nothing, worse than that though, Levy & the board bringing in coaches like Mourinho/Nuno/Conte/Stellini - all play similar style defensive football whilst having such a great forward line. Perhaps they could justify playing it with being able to counter, but that defence is just horrendous. Pocc had a very poor run towards the end, but the football was brilliant. Champs league final, finishing top 4, success for Spurs. Then they spent literally 0 in 2/3 transfer windows and it got stale, not sure what they expected him to do, especially when you see how good Son/Kane/Eriksen/Alli all were under him - 7 out of 7 premier league records in history for running stats are topped by Pocc, 5 at Spurs, 2 at Southampton. How Levy justified bringing in someone with completely different style is baffling, even more insulting to Pocc was the fact they spent hundreds of millions on players after he left. Daft.
Well if they can't afford Bamford's medical fees, there's always the option of signing Bobbi Oulare from us, on a 5 year deal.
Defence was also their problem under Bielsa, he had the worst record for conceding goals in his last calendar year there.
Leeds fans will be beside themselves with joy. A way past it average manager assisted by an Oxford/MK Dons failed manager. You couldn’t make it up could you?
Wouldn't surprise me if they lost 2 and drew 2 and Leeds still stayed up with how appalling that bottom of the table is
