I watched that a few weeks back, and its very well done by Gervais. But its also very hard to watch in some parts of course, because of the subjects it deals with. I liked the interaction with the dog, and his building friendship with Penelope Wilton's character on the bench, in the cemetery. But I also like the dark comic side to it as well, especially the dirty Brian character.
what about one of those Jack and Jill seats so people are looking at each other for a chat, I would go with the quote from Irish poet William Butler Yeats "A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet ", like lots of people on here probably walk past people at Oakwell they consider friends on here and never even realise

I think its brilliant and fully deserves all the accolades and amount of viewers. Everyone involved played their parts perfectly
Have you seen Derek, which Gervais and a number of the same actors did. Its very similar because its set in an old folks home, so it deals with dying, amongst other things. And the actor who played dirty Brian, played almost an identical character here, called Kenny.
I did, recently actually mate. I was never really into Gervais as a youngster, but as I got older & especially after watching afterlife, I watched the other stuff he's done. My personal favourites from him are when he hosts the golden globes though!
Thee old saying.. Out of sight out of mind.. Understanding this and there is no mental health problems. You'll just burst out laughing when the illusion is seen.
