Michael Palin in Ripping Yarns on BBC4 at 10.30. Well worth watching for those who’ve not seen it before and worth watching again if you already have Edit 10.30pm Saturday night
“October 7th, 1931. 2-0 against Pudsey.“ “Haggerty F, Ferris, Noble, Codren, Crapper, Davis, Sullivan, O’Grady, Kembell, Hacker and Davitt*. Davitt scored twice, once in 21st minute, once in 28th minute…” ”Davitt, he were hell of a player.” says the scrap merchant. ” He were bald weren’t he? Head like stainless steel.” “That’s right. He once scored with the back of his head from 28 yards against Barnsley reserves in 1922.”
That's like saying " 0-1... 0 bl*oody 1... at Altringham of all teams... in the bl*oody Fa cup! ". But thankfully that's made up, and it never happened, did it!.
Was sitting alone in a coffee shop reading this thread and the other customers will think I am mad. Thinking of ripping yarns then switching my thoughts to Palin as the proprietor of the pet shop in Python I could not help laughing out loud. Wonderful original comedy.
