'Sky Sports agrees new five-year EFL deal | Over 1000 matches per season!' https://www.skysports.com/share/12873679
I don't blame sky one bit as they are simply buying a product offered for sale by the EFL under instruction from the clubs but I think it's a horrible deal. More money thrown at an industry which doesn't need it and what does it actually mean for the fans? More disruption to fixture dates.
Don't think this is true. Clubs like Bury who've gone out of business definitely needed it. Don't like it, but the more money going into league 1 & 2 the better imo bud.
So, if I'm reading that right, on average, there's a 5 in 24 chance in L1 that any Saturday 3pm game of ours will get moved (assuming parity of coverage between L1 and L2 and between clubs which, in practice, may not be the case) and if we are fortunate enough to be promoted to the Championship it's a 5 in 12 chance? Any extra money will just go into player salaries and/or attract more unsavoury wild-west style financial gambler owners. Horrific. Whither the fans views?
I agree with the 2nd bit but Bury would still be in the football league had they not been run awfully and borrowed on the ground etc.
Yes you are right bud. Poor example given how they were run. But yes my point was to try close the gap between league 1 & 2 and those higher up. When clubs can spend 20/30 million on players in championship whilst getting parachute payments, something wrong has happened!
I disagree. Using their current unsustainable spending models where they pay bang average footballers a millionaires wage they need it but in reality they really really don't. They only want it because they offer ridiculous wages
So what's the alternative for them not offering competitive wages though? Just slowly drift down the leagues? Over the years I've hated watching us lose our best players all the time. Not saying they still won't leave, but perhaps we'll have a better chance of retaining them, or putting more money into scouting. Anything. I'd be all for restricting spending of premier league & championship clubs, just won't happen, ever
Exactly what you suggest. More restrictions and a tighter control of finances with penalties for clubs overspending. It's the only way. Throwing more and more money at the problem won't solve it. All it means is that the premier League will demand more money to maintain the gap and the spiral will continue all being funded by football fans both via TV subscriptions and on the gate.
Don't think so Gally. 'will remain for audio-visual arrangements for international audiences' I assume they probably mean on weekdays when folk don't need to use a VPN
It's the opposite isn't it? Instead of getting midweek matches via red button included in your subscription you'll now have to pay a tenner a time to watch them on ifollow?
It just won't happen though. No way will they sacrifice money at the very type, whether than's Fifa, FA, Sky, Premier league clubs, any of them. The fact 'big' clubs like Derby, Reading & Wigan etc get away time & time again with financial overspending, yet nothing happens other than points deductions, nothing will change. If you're a smaller club though like Bury, Macclesfield, then ciao
I know they won't but that doesn't make this deal good. It means that we as fans have to pay more to watch it on TV, will see smaller attendances AND will have to suffer more fixture changes. All so clubs can pay more wages and obscene transfer fees? Regardless of whether they feel they have to do that or not is irrelevant for me, if they want to the the owners can get their hands in their pockets instead of the fans
Yeah isn't that what replace means though? Streamed matches replace red button. Streamed matches cost a tenner, red button doesn't. It's a terribly written piece though that isn't clear at all
Well i have an aversion to paying money to sky so I wouldnt have it included but it sounds like Id have to pay them rather than BFC via IFollow once it comes in. Or just use a vpn I guess all the time.
DAZN bid for the rights was to show every one of the EFL matches live including 3pm Saturday kick offs. the live streaming of Saturday 3pm kick offs was an option for broadcasters to use in there bids. 1656 matches live worldwide including the U.K
that’s what I understand, the big noise is extra tv cash up front, the details are clubs not getting I follow money anymore and all matches available via the sky streaming app, sat 3pm matched streamed for oversees subscribers / VPN only
Looks like if the club is to get money it’s a VPN like on a Saturday afternoon. But I guess we need to see the details
