2006 we lost first leg of playoffs 0-1 to Huddersfield and won the second leg 3-2 at their place. Went onto win final v Swansea
Its a lottery, av faith, believe and the worlds yer oyster, see yer all on Olympic Way if not before, C,O,Y,R,
Nice to know lesser teams will be having cup finals against Wednesday. How many cup finals do they have in a season? Peterborough's cup final awaits even if they don't make it to the ...er... final
It's a weird one because we chased the top 2 as long as possible but ultimately it left us in limbo. We've just got to reset and get behind them for the playoffs, absolutely anything can happen now.
Have faith 4-2 over two games in our favour then 3-1 at Barnsley South is my shout ....the reds are going up....
Having slept on it, I realise this was maybe a slight overreaction. I'm sure we'll be up for it. I've got my ticket for the home leg as well. Come on Reds.
In 2006 we won the playoffs having got 72 points in 46 regular season games. This season we have 86. That season the league champions got 82, and Colchester went up in second with 79 points. That would have been enough to scrape sixth this season. In fact I think 86 points is the second most we’ve ever achieved in a regular season, to get within 5 points of what the 18/19 season team got (and let’s face it, that side was much, much better overall, you’d get Connell and maybe Cadden in that eleven?), is some achievement. I’d have rested more than we did yesterday. But I’m not sure confidence will have been knocked too much to be honest. We weren’t pressing energetically, the whole performance was a little lackadaisical and lacklustre; the goals conceded summing it up quite a lot. Duff needs to get them fired up and all guns blazing - I can’t see him failing to do that. The Bolton tie is very tough of course but they will be worrying about us every bit as much as us them.
I remember a lot of supporters being quite negative about our chances under Dave Bassett when we got in the 2000 Championship play offs. We'd been well beaten by Birmingham (our eventual play off semi final opponents) a few weeks earlier at St Andrews. We also ended the season in almost identical form as this one (8 points from the last 6 games, including a 2-0 home defeat to Crewe on the last day). Our next game was that 4-0 demolition at St Andrews. I'd happily take that at the weekend!
I seem to remember when we lost there at Birmingham in the league in '00, a certain Isiah Rankin did well against us, and looked like a world beater.
