Of the teams to play away from home as it stands. Luton and our MASSIVE neighbours both have a deficit before their home games!
I watched the second half of your game in the Stadium of Light on Saturday, I have to say there were quite a few cheers when you scored. A combination of another team playing in red and white and a dislike of Bolton I think (we should thank them but still hurts that they beat is 6-0 forteen or so months ago). You are well placed to finish the job next Friday, that's a long wait between 2 huge games mind.
How has the quality of the Championship looked this season? The general feeling is that the gap is huge compared with L1, yet you finished 6th having only gone up via the playoffs last season. I know it's been a very low points total to get in this year, but even so 67 points is a great effort for your first season back. Did you strengthen much in the summer or it's just quite a weak league, relatively speaking?
It's a definite step up in quality and on any day anyone can beat anyone else if you're not at it 100%. Its been pretty much the same core of players that took us out of league one, we signed a few players but the majority were young and were seen as more for next season (Amad being the exception). Due the injuries we've got we've just had to throw players in and remarkably it's clicked and out of adversity we've found an effective way to play. We could lose 3-0 at Luton and we'd still be happy giving staying up was the aim, being 2-1 up you do start to dream though!
The two main differences I've noticed going in the other direction is that the bottom sides in L1 are truly abysmal. The gulf in quality between us and the likes of Accrington and Forest Green was truly gaping. Also the quality of the finishing is noticeably much worse. Although I think we'll probably scrape survival if we go up, there have been a lot of times this season where we've got in trouble defensively and not been punished, where you know that in the Championship we'd have conceded 7 or 8 times out of 10 in a similar situation.
Yeah totally agree, the quality of the finishing is a different level also teams are better organised defensively and you have to work for your goals much more. Top end League One is highly competitive but as you say, and I am not in the slightest being high and mighty, there are some poor teams in that league who literally try and shithouse results from one week to the next. Don't get me wrong every side has players who can help kill the game but in League One for some teams it's there main tactic, I found that anyway.
Apparently the massives should have gone straight to final for finishing 3rd and us, posh end Bolton should fight it out to play them at Wembley funny how this come out after they lost 4-0.
