My eldest is heading up for the game on Friday with 4 of his Cambridge mates, aiming to arrive early afternoon.
He's asking me for advice on where best to go for a few beers & a bit of atmosphere :(

Apparently the Ring O' Bells & South Yorkshireman no longer exist :D so anyone got any suggestions?

I said courthouse & No. 7 but the last time I was on Wellington St. it wasn't looking its best, so looking for some suggestions please.

They're all early twenties if that helps.
Glass houses ? (I don't even know what that is)

    TIA

Courthouse, Garrison, Bramahs and Silkstone, White Bear and Shakespeares all have good atmosphere and match days

There’s a food festival running from Thursday to Sunday this week in the new shopping precinct/square, as well as the surrounding bars they’ll be additional stuff there. There’s the Market kitchen with its different selection of food and the bar. The Arcade with it’s new bars has become popular, then you could call in the Garrison

I'd say venture round the Glassworks area as a first time visitor. And take a look at the new things Barnsley has to offer. I'd follow Tarntykes advice. Because I think that may entice em back to take in the rest of the town. I'm sure they will be impressed.

For a group of lads in their early 20’s I’d suggest starting in White Bear then down to Annie Murray’s on the arcade, down the arcade to Spiral City, then through alley to Garrison then to the game from there.

All the above suggestions are really good, but don’t forget that these lads are from Cambridge. They’ll be wanting a pub where nobody talks to them and serves warm flat beer in short measures

Depends what they like really. Garrison will be rammed and atmospheric, usual lagers on offer.

Victorian Arcade has all manner of decent bars and pubs.

Glassworks and the square its on has Botanist, Black + White and Salthouse for something more fancy.

Wellington Street remains a toilet with no redeemable features so best to avoid despite the legions of bars on there.

Some of the lads at work called me captain (aka hook/y fella) lol. But golf is not my thing. :). Though I might nip up and pinch his chair. Only a 15 minute walk away.

With his Cambridge mates, they should have a good chance of winning the quiz enall.
