.... while Peterborough would undoubtedly have given us a better chance of winning next week, the occasion if it does end up being Barnsley v Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley will be something very special indeed. Yep, it's likely to be emotional torture, but that's part and parcel of being a football fan. If we go there and lose, or if we lose tonight, we're still in a far better place as a club than we were a year ago. And if we win? Well, it'll be a day we'll all remember for the entire of the rest of our lives. Isn't that what being a football fan is all about?
It's not so much the game that puts me off, just the fkin nightmare it's going to be getting there & back.
In order not to tempt fate, I'm prefacing every conversation on this with..... "IF we get there"......we will be the massive underdog, media will all be focused on what Weds achieved against Pboro and all the records they've broke this year and how they got 96 points and didn't go up automatically, how they deserve to be at a higher level cos of their fans, blah, blah blah.........we'll sneak massively under the radar and batter them for the 3rd time.
Why nightmare? Won't take that long on coach, or drive and park at an outlying tube stop and get the tube in..simple.
If we beat Bolton, I can see us driving down with Barnsley and Wednesday fans in the same car. Be an interesting journey back.
If we beat Bolton, I can guarantee that Wednesday fans will be very nervous at the prospect of taking us on. Not only are we as good a them, but they will be firm favourites with the bookies and the pressure will be all on them. They know it.
I’m the same, it should be a very special occasion that probably won’t happen again in any of our lifetimes IF we manage to get there. While there are plenty of Wednesday fans that do your nut in, there’s plenty who are decent, loads of them working in Barnsley and loads of reds working in Sheffield, we’ve all got mates or colleges who are Wednesday fans and visa versa, it should be a brilliant Yorkshire day out. My kid plays in a team made up of half Barnsley and half Wednesday fans and they are already talking about having a kick about on Wembley Way. it’ll be stressful full, not just for us, they won’t want to play us either, but IF we get there it should be a wonderful occasion
May as well just stay at home eh Edit: you sound like my dad with every journey he has to make over an hour. Are you in your mid-60s?
Well I, for one, am dreading it The most deflated I’ve ever felt as a football fan, more than any loss, was that bloody last minute Carlton Palmer equaliser in 1990 (…let it go, man). This might top it. Having said that, if we beat them, will instantly go above both my kids births by a considerable margin. I’ll be there.
Remember the "Yorkshire" chants at Huddersfield when we both dicked about to send Pboro down. That's gonna be amazing (IF we get through) at Wembley
I’ve been saying that all along, even though it’s been bizarrely trendy to say ‘dunt want wensdy’. Lads worried that a work mate (who they are secretly in love with) will never let it go if they beat us. Fannies..
It'll take an age on the coach because of the sheer number of coaches from the same area. Might get to the end of the M1 in 3 or so hours but it could take another 2 to get near the ground I imagine.
Loads of bad memories from playing Wednesday and i certainly couldn’t risk losing at Wembley IF we get there so for that reason alone i wouldn’t be going
