Earlier this evening, Michael Duff's side secured a 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the second leg of the Semi-Final to initially progress 2-1 on aggregate to the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final. Barnsley were set to meet the massively enormous Sheffield Wednesday on Monday 28 May. The EFL have received a request from Sheffield Wednesday and their fans to cancel the League One Play-Off Final and to consider their immediate promotion to the Championship - as a direct result of the enormous amount of fans they have, and where they believe they should ‘rightly belong’. The EFL have completed a non-independent assessment of the request, taking into account the basic requirements to be successful at Chanpionship level (massive amounts of fans and a huge, enormous stadium), as well as the potential dangers that would have been caused by the 400,000 Sheffield Wednesday fans attending Wembley Stadium should the Play-Off final have gone ahead as planned. The EFL have agreed to cancel the League One Play-Off final and promote Sheffield Wednesday as a direct result of their massiveness. The EFL remains committed to being impartial and hope that tinpot Barnsley FC understand that they’re just not massive enough to warrant promotion on this occasion.
Fortunately the eagle-eyed Barnsley supporters saw a huge flaw in the request by the massive/huge/humungus club from down town Sheffield - that flaw being a confusion of the dates - In their request they cited the date of the play offs as Monday 28 May. Now taking into account that they have not fully adopted the Gregorian calendar and their part of Shefffield is in a time warp it does not excuse this basic error. The play off date is Monday 29 May. Although it will distress their millions of supporters sadly the EFL has no option but to throw out their request and give little ol' Barnsley a pass into the Championship.
Unfortunately whilst trying to decide the trajectory of the massive, derby laid a spectacular claim as being even more massive and should by default be given priority boarding to the championship because of cloughy and that. Luckily a bigger issue usurped all issues when David batty turned up and explained that leeds should still be in yorup.
Barnsley fans are being asked to find alternate routes to Wembley as the M1 has been completely booked by Wednesday fans as they're massive
Sheff weds to kick off at 15:00 hrs: HT 1-0 to Weds FT 2-0 to Weds Barnsley to kick off at 18:00 HT 123-0 to Barnsley FT 367-0 Barnsley.
We've just won to get to Wembley and you've bothered to write all that crap, just enjoy the victory tonight
Most of the opening paragraph was copied from the EFL website, which had the date wrong. I didn’t bother to check.
Apologies, sir. What’s the correct way to celebrate? It’s just a bit of fun based on some of the ridiculous comments I’d seen on Twitter from the deluded Wednesday fans. It took two minutes to write btw.
One thing is for sure ..it will be a logistical nightmare...pound to a penny barnsley coaches will only be allowed in certain services and vice versa for Wednesday fans Coach companies will be notified, no doubt certain fans will relish causing bother on both sides...police vans at most services all the way down .....all in all a head ache for all involved in organising transport and the day ...but who cares at the minute because the reds are going to Wembley nah nar nar nah
Well the football authorities do have previous for this kind of thing: see Arsenal 1919 Never forget never forgive
