Does anyone know why the play offs are scheduled as they are? I thought the Champ game was always the last one. L1 on Sunday L2 on Saturday. Just curious.
The Championship one has always been the Saturday hasn’t it? They’ve just swapped League 1 and 2 around this year.
Wednesday insisted they were higher profile than Championship. Failed though to get Man City v Milan moved
They've changed a few times over the years. 2013: league 2, league 1, championship 2014: championship, league 1, league 2 2015: league 2, league 1, championship 2016: championship, league 1, league 2 2017: league 1, league 2, championship 2018: championship, league 1, league 2 2019: league 2, league 1, championship 2020: league 2, league 1, championship 2021: championship, league 1, league 2 2022: league 1, league 2, championship 2023: championship, league 2, league 1
I thought it was to give the winners an extra couple of days to prepare for the Premier League; i.e. get rid of their current squad and recruit a new team a la Forest.
Presume it's pitch related - 3 games in 3 days wouldn't want the Champ game on last. I reckon L1 and L2 swapped as the Sunday is last day of prem season so it's a 1230ko so less fans to get there for the early ko. Kind of harsh on stockpot and Carlisle fans mind - kills the public transport option for them presumably esp Carlisle......
Because Barnsley v Wednesday is a bigger final than Coventry v Luton or Carlisle v Stockport. In my opinion.
The Barnsley v Ipswich 2nd tier playoff final in 2000 was played on the Monday. I remember vividly being doubly down in the dumps on the way back, because I had work the next day.
