Train was going to be £250-300 for 3 off us, so booked a hotel in Paddington for £100 and driving down

Paddington is in the ULEZ zone, so make sure you pay your £25 (£12.50 each day) :)

I searched my car and was surprised to learn - given its age - that I'm exempt. I'm parking in Ealing anyway, which is outside the zone, but I was looking into parking closer to the ground. I just assumed nearly all car drivers need to pay it, but not the case. I have an 08 Polo (petrol).

Thanks for that, going on a coach but checked my car. Currently debating a replacement and whether to spend extra on a euro 6 diesel, didn't realise in august its inside M25

All 08 petrol cars should be exempt from the ULEZ charge, Diesels need to be much newer see below
    • Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001
    • Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015

At least everyone will easily find info on emissions charges when driving down to London. Now that it's conveniently been filed under the thread titled Trains.

Unfortunately, trains don't meet the emissions charges to drive down to London - or at least those from Sheffield don't.

Maybe you could radically reverse what people normally do (merging) and ask @Gally to split the thread and create a new one under 'Emissions' :D or have i just done that for you?

Do you need to prove your exemption (registering somehow) or does Big Brother know through cctv/super ULEZ cameras etc?
