Can't think of many League Clubs who would have sold more than we have. Unfortunately Wednesday are one of them.
Yep because there's so many of them around us. Let's face it. We have created this ourselves singing songs about them etc now they have a feeling towards us that they would love to shut us up.
We're in the midst of a cost of living crisis with some people struggling to food on the table. I'm sure a lot more would have loved to have gone but quite rightly have more urgent matters and outgoings to budget for. Don't think anyone should be too critical to be honest. Ps don't think the club should have gone all in announcing numbers sold etc.
These threads bug the hell outtta me, belittling those not able to go seems to be our equivalent of Wendies head counting. It's not a cheap day out by any means, Barnsley as a small town has probably suffered more than most. If you're going you're probably doing better financially than the average, so think yourself lucky and try to resist the urge to throw scorn or disdain on those with more pressing priorities, less infirm or less fortunate than yourself.
And mine and this is only one of the reasons why I'm watching from the comfort of the tv screen on Monday. I can't manage some home games and that's less than fifty miles each way so I was never going to do a Wembley trip, either driving down or by train. There are so many things that can go wrong on our wonderful rail network, especially on a bank holiday, and the thought of sharing a long journey with hundreds of Wednesday and Barnsley fans rampaging up and down shouting the odds didn't appeal much. Going by coach wasn't an option - six or seven hours on the road each way? No thanks, and I know it shouldn't take that long but I suspect there will be gridlock when the massive convoys hit North London. Driving down to Princes Risborough and getting the short train in from there? Again, no thanks. 200 mile road trips each way are not my cup of tea any more. I've done plenty of them in the past and driven across Europe a few times as well. But not now. Home comforts for me.
What a stupid thing to say, it was never ever about entering attendance wars, it was about keeping fans updated. Also a club our size shifting 20,000 in the short space of time we did, and considering all the circumstances, it was very impressive. Stop spouting negativity about attendances, talk about the game FFS
We haven’t created anything, they would dislike us simply because we can and will deny them their glory
If someone goes alone it's around £100 for the cheapest adult ticket and coach travel. Add in a partner, couple of kids, food, drink, programme, merchandise, and a better price ticket for a better view and you're paying more for a day at the Football than it would cost to have a nice little getaway somewhere for a few nights.
The people of Sheffield are also in the midst of a cost of living crisis, let’s face it,they’re a much bigger club, they should be selling more tickets
The disappointing aspect for me comes from the fact that we've taken 35k to wembley on 2 occasions before. I've said it before and I'll say it again, over the last 10/15 years, we seem to have lost about 10k fans somewhere.
It reflects our current league status and the type of occasion. If this were a Championship playoff final or an FA Cup semi or final, we would again shift 35,000 tickets.
Totally different circumstances. The Ipswich game was our first ever appearance at Wembley not long after our Premier League season. Grandmothers, wives, kids all went for the day out. Not sure we sold 35,000 for the Cardiff game but again it was our biggest game since we won the FA Cup in 1912. A better comparison would be the LG 1 play offs against Swansea and Millwall and the JPT against Oxford where we sold approx the same as this LG 1 play off match.
Can't knock Wednesdays support there a massive club when I was young they were a established premier league side and they obviously still have the fan base from there. This fixture was played on 2012 between sheff United and Huddersfield and the total attendance was 52k I've seen us take 32k and 36k to Wembley on 2 occasions championship play off final and f.a Cup semi. I'm abit disappointed but it is what is it where a town in the middle of 2 big city's with 3 big clubs.
