It’s a good turnout for a town the size of Barnsley, but yeah there’s potential for us to sell more in different circumstances. A few reasons why it’s not a huge crowd: 1, Cost of living crisis. People are skint, it’s an expensive day. 2, It’s another League One playoff. We’ve gone up from this league a few times recently. Everyone is loving it but it’s not as exciting as the FA Cup Semi Final, for example. 3, Last season. It was so far beyond unacceptable, and people haven’t forgotten. I had a strong feeling of “what’s the point?” so I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned people off. Either way, I’m sure the 23,000 (or however many) reds fans down there will get behind them and make a lot of noise! I’m sure Duff’s lads will rise to the occasion
Also to add to part 1) the fact that transport is more expensive due to the massive going down at the same time from pretty much the same junction. Part 4) people don’t want to put up with the blue and white massive the whole of the journey.
5) As soon on here, there's so many regular fans unable to attend due to health reasons. I do think we have an ageing fanbase. A fair few who can't make it, more than likely their partners/kids/family probably won't go down either & stay and watch at home with their loved ones. I think I said on a previous post, the rise of social media & the internet means more kids are supporting 'big' clubs despite living nowhere near or having no family ties
Bought 2 on my season ticket this morning for my sons mates. Think people are still buying. Hopefully get close to the 25, 000 mark!
Totally agree. Historically the max we were going to sell was 25k, with it likely just under that figure. I don’t think it’s much to do with cost of living etc - it’s more that the playoffs at Wembley are always dear. To some, it’s just too much overall to pay. Fair enough. Plus they’re always in the half term holiday, so many are away already. The FA Cup semi wasn’t during half-term, and tickets were on sale for several weeks. Also, it was the first time at the new Wembley. We were always going to sell more for that one.
To be honest 20k 25k whatever it's still not bad. For what its costing me to go down with kids I could have bout a season ticket next season for me n daughter in ponty and I'm not even joking.
Don’t forget that this is our sixth trip to Wembley in the last 25 years (including a game vs Spurs). Wednesday have only been once in that period (I think,) so they are not as used to it as we are
It’s crackers that the match is being played at Wembley Stadium at all. The fans of two clubs only 15 miles apart having to travel to the other end of the country is ridiculous. It’s time that the two clubs reaching a playoff final be allowed to agree a neutral venue between themselves, and the FA can just suck it up
My mam told me on that on Facebook Liam Kitchings cousin wanted 5 tickets but couldn't get them for him and his family due to not having a season ticket, kitching had already given his allocation away. Not sure if its been sorted as it was 2 days ago and I dont have Facebook but I assume plenty have had same problem
