We love football, it's like a drug, and the highs are immense, but for every 'high' someone at the other end of the stadium is suffering a 'low'. Yesterday it was our turn, and we have to accept these things will happen, because if they didn't, there would be no 'highs'. It's the jeopardy we love about the game. The lads on the pitch fought hard for us yesterday, the fans sang loud from the stands, and we certainly left Wembley with our heads held high. Most neutrals seemed to agree we were harshly treated, but that's football, we can't change that now and speaking personally, dwelling on such stuff just damages your mental health, best in my view to leave the past behind. The positives are - we are a very, very good League 1 team, with bags of young talent, a great manager and a seemingly supportive board. Year on year, we now seem to be moving in a positive direction and after years of underwhelming ownership, this is, in and of itself, a real joy. But add to that these talented young kids, some still raw at the edges, some maybe not good enough, but plenty that will still get better and better. A few ifs here, but if we retain the services of Duff, if we trade wisely in the transfer market, there is nobody we should fear next season. Even looking at the teams that have come down, I'm not worried about any of them. Those lads grew on that pitch yesterday and to a man they're better footballers than they were 9 months ago. That's progress. Personally I would love a statement from Duff to say he is committing himself to BFC for the next season and if that happens, I think everything else will hopefully fall into place.
What like the one Danny Wilson made - Id rather he just kept quiet and stayed Ive no idea what he will do and he has a record of being loyal, but really he cant make that statement if he has any integrity because lets say he does get a far better offer with a bigger club which is closer to his home - it would be strange if he didnt take it
You're right, it is unrealistic to expect a verbal statement, but signing fresh terms would send a message.
Its a year since we were relegated and only a month since we relegated Forest Green. I'd much rather be in our position now than either of those.
Great post @**AIRTyke and I agree almost completely. I just have two additional comments. Firstly (and I know this is churlish) for me the positive direction is not yet 'year on year'. It's only 'year' for me at the moment, I hope it'll become a longer term trend. And I agree with others that a statement might not be forthcoming but I really hope Board members will show Michael Duff some love over the coming weeks and convince him this is the right place for him to be for the next couple of years at least. An aside, and I know this is possibly churlish again, but I wish Khaled would refer to him as 'Michael' rather than 'Duff' in interviews. I'm sure there's no disrespect intended but every time I hear him say it I cringe a little.
