The two most important people for us to keep in my eyes are Duff and Connell. I think we can cope with losing Mads, Williams, Collins and Styles and let's be honest we have to sell at least three of them. I see that as one step back and hopefully two forward in the long run. Luca is going to be pivotal again next season though. I'd have him as captain.
One thing which has not been mentioned about Duff is his loyalty, up to coming to us his career has only seen him being with two clubs as both a player & manager which is indeed incredible & speaks volumes of the man, I maybe mistaken but when Duff took the reigns it was the challenge of a project what attracted him , I believe he will want to see the job through , it is in his DNA , he only moved on from Cheltenham when he got them promoted & then followed that by making them established in this division , that was his project then & now I believe his project is to take us to the championship & establish us in that league , I believe he is one of a rare breed & shows loyalty to his employers , we will see.
fair dos mate. I would guard against getting too attached though. Wilson said he was staying. went to Wednesday the week after. hecky said he was staying. went to Leeds 3 days after. val said the job was 'a project'. left for the first club that came in. if duff leaves, the fans will be gutted. but one thing they shouldn't be, is surprised.
It is pretty common knowledge that most startups that fail do so in the 2nd or third year of trading. After the initial outlay and promotional drive, momentum is lost and investment is often far lower stalling growth. One successful season and investment (as you say £5m) is a start but if it is not then followed by similar investment, especially after that has original investment has proved so beneficial, makes it meaningless. If you want to grow the business you have to keep investing in it. Strangely there are people in this debates on here who (rightly) slammed 'austerity measured' and can clearly see that simply merely cutting costs year on year with little or no investment has been an abject failure seem to think that running BFC and 'saving money', minimal investment and selling the family silver each season is the way forward. It isn't because it is a competitive business and virtually no other clubs are doing it to the level that BFC are. As someone said, we have to break the cycle somehow. Running a small to medium business, Corporation, multinational /country nowadays involves borrowing in some form.
